Direct services run from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast across most of the year, so you are rarely tied to a single departure day or a dawn start.
Paying in euro means no exchange desks, no conversion fees and no mental arithmetic at the till.
The Canary Islands hold daytime highs of 20 to 24 degrees through January while the rest of Europe shivers.
A single country covers quiet fishing villages, big resort beaches, serious mountain walking and three of Europe's great cities without a connecting flight.
From Granada's free tapas to Basque pintxo counters, eating brilliantly here costs less than almost anywhere in western Europe.
Blue Flag beaches, short transfers and hotels that genuinely plan for families take the stress out of a first trip abroad.

Where you land shapes the whole week, and these six bases cover every style of trip between them.
Majorca, Balearics: The Balearic flagship pairs the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana mountains with family bays like Alcudia and Cala d'Or, while Palma adds a proper city evening beneath La Seu, among Europe's tallest Gothic cathedrals. The vintage wooden train to Soller, running through the mountains since 1912, remains the classic inland day out, and the island's north and east coasts hide calas you can still have mostly to yourselves in June.
Tenerife, Canaries: Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak at 3,715 metres, rises straight out of the island's winter-sun heartland, and its national park carries UNESCO World Heritage status. The southern strips around Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje stay above 20 degrees in January, and resident pilot whales live in the strait just offshore, so boat trips run in every month of the year.
Costa del Sol: Malaga anchors this coast with its reborn old town and the Museo Picasso in the painter's birthplace, backed by roughly 300 days of sunshine a year. Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella spread west along the shore, while Granada's Alhambra sits about 90 minutes inland for the best cultural day trip on the mainland.
Costa Blanca: Benidorm's Levante and Poniente beaches both fly Blue Flags beneath a high-rise skyline found nowhere else on this sea. Anyone hunting cheap holidays to Spain usually starts here, because fierce competition keeps board upgrades and late deals honest, and the coach transfer from the coast's main airport takes about 45 minutes.
Gran Canaria: Often called a miniature continent, the island packs the Sahara-like Maspalomas dunes into its south, pine forest rising to nearly 2,000 metres inland, and Las Canteras, rated among Europe's best city beaches, up in Las Palmas. Few places squeeze this much variety inside a single hire-car day, which is why repeat visitors keep choosing it.
Barcelona and around: Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, under construction since 1882, headlines a city that also gives you the medieval Gothic Quarter, La Boqueria market and four kilometres of sand at Barceloneta, ten minutes from the old town by metro. It twins naturally with Salou or the Costa Brava for a half-and-half week that mixes galleries with beach afternoons.
Beyond the beach, a handful of genuinely world-class days out justify the airfare on their own.
Follow the Gaudi trail: Seven of the architect's Barcelona works carry UNESCO listing; book the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell before you fly, then walk the town houses of Passeig de Gracia between the two for the full picture in one unhurried day, ending at Casa Batllo as the facade lights come on.
Book the Alhambra early: Granada's hilltop palace complex caps daily entry to the Nasrid Palaces, and summer slots disappear weeks ahead, so securing tickets belongs on the to-do list beside the flights rather than the packing. The Generalife gardens alone repay an extra hour on the hill.
Ride up Mount Teide: The cable car climbs to 3,555 metres on Spain's highest mountain, with views across the whole archipelago on a clear morning and a free permit needed for the final walk to the 3,715-metre summit. Go early, before the clouds build over the crater rim.
Siam Park day: Repeatedly rated the world's best of its kind, the Costa Adeje water giant pairs its 28-metre Tower of Power drop with gentler Lost City zones for smaller children, and it anchors a February mid-term break to Spain perfectly when the Atlantic is still too cool for small swimmers.
Walk Seville's old quarter: The world's largest Gothic cathedral, Columbus's tomb and the Real Alcazar sit within a few hundred metres of each other, with the flamenco bars of Triana, the art form's birthplace, just across the river. April and May evenings are when the squares are at their best.
Out on the water: Licensed boats from Los Cristianos cruise Europe's first Whale Heritage Site, where short-finned pilot whales live year-round in the Tenerife strait and sightings hold up in every season, with around 26 cetacean species recorded in these waters over the years.
Finish the Camino: Many Irish walkers fly into Santiago for the final 100 kilometres from Sarria, the minimum stretch that earns the Compostela certificate, and the route's sociable rhythm makes it a natural shape for solo holidays to Spain.
Match the coast to the ages: toddlers do best on shallow, short-transfer beaches like the Costa Dorada and the calmer Balearic bays, while primary-age children get the most from the water-park strips of the Costa Blanca. Teenagers rate the Canary Islands for year-round swimming and activities. There is no single best, which is why we ask about the children first. The right answer falls out of their ages almost automatically.
