Snow-capped mountains, Atlantic dune beaches, medieval hill towns and celebrated cities all sit inside one country.
The Canary Islands record more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and the Costa del Sol is the sunniest coastline on mainland Europe.
Direct flights from Irish airports reach the mainland coasts, the Balearics and the Canaries, so the journey stays short and simple.
Tapas in Seville, paella in Valencia and pintxos in the Basque Country show how much the food changes from region to region.
The Balearics suit beach and nightlife weeks while the Canaries offer volcanic scenery and mild weather through the winter.
Hotels, apartments and all-inclusive resorts along every coast keep a week in Spain affordable at any budget.

The best all-inclusive couples resorts pair an adults-only hotel with a real town or marina a short walk away.
Altea: Whitewashed lanes climb to the blue-domed church of Nuestra Senora del Consuelo, with restaurants on the steps below and a pebble beach at the foot of the hill, around 10 km from the largest resort on the coast. All-inclusive choice is small here, but the adults-only hotels that offer it are among our Cheap Spain Holidays favourites for couples.
Marbella: The old town and the Puerto Banus marina, opened in 1970 and around 6 km to the west, are the upmarket end of the southern coast, and its adults-only all-inclusive hotels are where our Spain Adults Only Holidays deals cluster. Book them outside July and August and the premium drops sharply.
Nerja: The Balcon de Europa clifftop promenade, cove beaches and the caves east of the town give couples a slower week than the western strip, and the few all-inclusive hotels here price below the marina resorts. It is the base our Spain Beach Holidays customers ask for when they want a beach and a walkable town.
Puerto de Mogan: A low-rise harbour resort in the south-west of its island, with canals, a small beach and fish restaurants on the quay, a bus ride from the large southern resorts. All-inclusive couples' hotels here are few and quiet, and winter rates sit below the busier strips.
Calpe: The Penon de Ifach rock, a natural park, rises above long sandy beaches and a lower-rise hotel stock than its famous neighbour to the south. A handful of all-inclusive adults-only hotels sit behind the beach, and June rates here are among the lowest on that coast.
Island all-inclusive weeks for couples are cheapest in the months either side of the school summer, when the sea is still warm.
Lanzarote: Volcanic, uncrowded and low-rise by law, with Timanfaya National Park covering around 51 sq km of lava fields and the artist Cesar Manrique's landmarks across the island. Lanzarote holidays on an all-inclusive basis suit couples who want quiet beaches and scenery; October to April is the value window.
Tenerife: Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak at 3,715 m, sits inside a national park above resorts that stay warm all year. Tenerife holidays cost more than the mainland in summer, but from November to March an adults-only all-inclusive week here buys guaranteed warmth on a flight of around four hours.
Majorca: The largest Balearic island pairs a cultured capital with a UNESCO-listed mountain range along the north-west coast, listed in 2011, and stone villages an hour from the beach. Majorca holidays for couples on an all-inclusive basis price best in early June and late September, when the adults-only hotels drop their peak rates.
Gran Canaria: The protected Maspalomas dunes, a 3 km urban beach at Las Canteras and villages such as Tejeda in the volcanic interior give couples a varied week on one island. Gran Canaria holidays with all-inclusive adults-only hotels price keenly in winter, when the dunes beat a cold week at home for the same money.
Fuerteventura: Steady summer trade winds on Sotavento beach make it a leading European windsurfing and kitesurfing location, and the island is around 30 minutes by ferry from its volcanic neighbour. Its all-inclusive resorts suit active couples, and spring and autumn weeks are often the best-priced in the Canaries.
It is in adults-only hotels, where the label usually covers premium drinks, a la carte dinners and a quiet pool, and in the large resorts where all-inclusive hotels compete hard on price. In old towns with good restaurants bed and breakfast can give you better evenings for less. We compare both for your dates.
