Red Sea resorts hold daytime highs of 20-25C from October to April while Ireland does the opposite.
Ras Mohammed, Giftun Island and the southern coast put coral walls, turtles and dolphins a short boat ride from your sunlounger.
Few destinations let you pair a beach week with the Pyramids of Giza, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings.
Buffets, pools and entertainment come bundled at prices that undercut most Mediterranean rivals in the same school-break weeks.
Many Red Sea hotels sit within half an hour of the runway, keeping travel days short with children or without.
A floating hotel between Luxor and Aswan adds temples, feluccas and sunset decks to any beach itinerary.

Each of the bases below suits a different kind of week, from reef town to river city. Even a short break such as St Patrick's Day to Egypt works from the Red Sea bases, where March days are already warm.
First-timer favourite: Egypt's biggest resort town spreads along roughly 40km of coast, from the El Dahar bazaar quarter to the modern marina, and a large share of all inclusive holidays to Egypt starts in Hurghada for the hotel choice and daily boat days to Giftun Island. Boat desks sell island and dolphin-watching trips a day ahead, and the marina restaurants give the first-night dinner an easy default.
Sinai classic: Between desert mountains and the sea, Naama Bay supplies the promenade evenings while Ras Mohammed National Park, protected since 1983, supplies reef walls that divers cross continents for. Sharm el Sheikh also carries the bonus of a free 15-day Sinai entry stamp for resort stays, and drives across the resort rarely pass 20 minutes.
Southern reefs: Turtles graze the seagrass at Abu Dabbab, spinner dolphins rest at Samadai's Dolphin House, and Marsa Alam's quieter coast suits travellers who rank snorkelling above nightlife. House reefs here often outclass boat trips elsewhere, and several hotels run guided snorkel safaris straight off the beach.
Pyramids and museums: Egypt's capital pairs the Giza plateau and its Sphinx with Khan el-Khalili's 14th-century bazaar, and the Grand Egyptian Museum now shows Tutankhamun's treasures around 2km from the pyramids themselves. Most visitors base on the Red Sea and come in by guided day trip, leaving before dawn and returning after dark.
Open-air museum: Ancient Thebes concentrates Karnak's 134-column Great Hypostyle Hall on the east bank and the Valley of the Kings on the west, making Luxor the natural start or finish of any Nile sailing. Direct winter flights make a culture-first short stay practical, with the east bank walkable from most hotels.
Upmarket neighbour: Canals, kite lagoons and the restaurants of Abu Tig Marina give this purpose-built town 25km north of Hurghada a tidier, calmer feel, with El Gouna transfers taking roughly 30-40 minutes. Evenings revolve around the marina and Downtown, with tuk-tuks and water taxis doing the short hops between lagoons.
Day trips do heavy lifting in Egypt, with world wonders and reef days stacked closer together than any rival winter-sun destination manages.
Giza day trip: Standing about 146m when built and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid shares its plateau with the Sphinx, and coach and air excursions run from the Red Sea resorts as well as Cairo hotels. Go early or late in the day for softer light and thinner crowds at the viewpoints.
Tutankhamun's treasures: The Grand Egyptian Museum spreads across about 50 hectares beside the pyramids, with the 10m-plus Ramses II colossus in its atrium and the boy king's collection as the headline draw. Allow at least half a day, and pre-book tickets in peak winter weeks.
Luxor to Aswan: Classic three- to seven-night sailings cover roughly 220km of river, calling at Edfu's Temple of Horus and Kom Ombo's double temple with guided stops and full board bundled in. Cabins sell out around Christmas and February, so the river end of a combined trip needs booking first.
Royal tombs: More than 60 burial chambers honeycomb the Valley of the Kings, including KV62 where Tutankhamun was found in 1922, and a standard ticket covers entry to three of them. The painted tombs of Seti I and Nefertari carry separate premium tickets worth the extra.
Protected reef walls: Ras Mohammed, Egypt's first national park, declared in 1983, pairs the famous Shark and Yolanda sites with sheer coral drop-offs, and group dive boats make it sociable territory for solo holidays to Egypt as much as for pairs. Snorkellers are as well served as divers, with shallow reef tops right beside the walls.
Island boat day: White-sand beaches at Mahmya and Orange Bay on Giftun sit about 11km offshore from Hurghada, and sea breezes keep deck time comfortable even on summer holidays to Egypt when inland heat peaks. Trips usually include lunch on board and two or three reef stops on the way back.
Dawn balloon flight: Drifting for 45 to 60 minutes over Hatshepsut's temple and the Theban hills at first light is Luxor's signature splurge, with launches shortly after sunrise when the air is calmest. Book the first morning of your stay, so a weather postponement still leaves room to fly later.
There are no non-stop scheduled flights from the island of Ireland to Egypt, so trips include one connection. Departures and connections from Belfast International vary through the year. Our team confirms current options for your dates and matches them to the best arrival airport.
