We stayed five nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay. The location was excellent, but the hotel itself felt rundown. There was a smell of damp in parts of the building and peeling paint in the corridor.On arrival, we were given the room we had booked and paid for. Our room smelled of mold and mildew. We should have asked for another right away but we wanted the ground-floor room with the patio and feared that perhaps all of those were in the same condition. A/C helped a little. Until Hurricane Lowell wiped that out. I would give this hotel ZERO STARS if I could. This was by far the worst Hilton experience my family and I have ever had.From the moment we arrived, the experience was unacceptable. Stayed in cottage. Perfect location for amazing sunrises and only steps from the beach. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The only negative is ants are prevalent which is not surprising given the location. Check in was disappointing no warm welcome to Hawaii and the property and no explanation of the property. Just a thanks for being a diamond member. We had room 1321 and it was fine no mold and clean. Nothing exciting about it. Had a view of the pool and ocean. Hot tub was hot so we enjoyed that. We did not go in the pool but lots of people were in it so not sure about the temperature.
