Nestled between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park and North America's only coral barrier reef, Islamorada was destined to become the Sport Fishing Capital of the World. Guest can reel in a sailfish in the morning, then venture into the backcountry for tarpon, bonefish and snook in shallow estuaries - all within minutes of this hotel. Guest can take an eco tour to explore coral formations, tropical fish and dolphin pods, or head out to commune with manatees, crocodiles and roseate spoonbills. The truly adventurous can even go by canoe or kayak to the remote Indian Key Historic State Park and Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park. Miami International Airport is about 135 km away.

A Perfect Florida Keys Getaway

My husband and I stayed at Amara Cay for our 25th anniversary and had an amazing time here. The resort has a peaceful, chill vibe and it was just our pace. The food at the Reel Catch was amazing and the staff everywhere were so pleasant and helpful every step of the way. The bartenders were great, the pool was delightful. Well…when I booked the stay I was told there was a food/beverage credit of $150. When I got my bill, it said the “credit” was built into my room rate. That’s absurd. When I got to the property at 2:00 with my GF in her wheelchair, I was told it would cost another $75.00 for “early” check in, even though the room was ready. Finally, when we saw the room it was hardly a partial ocean view, more like… Well…when I booked the stay I was told there was a food/beverage credit of $150. Amara Cay Resort has seen better days, and the hotel is not up to the expected standard even for the the Keys. I booked the suite to celebrate my anniversary, and I would not stay here again. Room 202 was extremely noisy with the sound of the elevator motor going day and night combined with the car traffic from the overseas highway.
