  Perfectly serviceable place in a great location at a great price

  We stayed here for a few days and loved being so close to the Mesquite Sand dunes that we could be there for sunrise and for sunset and stargazing. Right next to Mosaic Canyon as well! A solid base, easy breakfast on site; we ate dinner there one night as well.

  Good location for star gazing at the Sand Dunes in Death Valley

  We stayed two nights here to do star gazing at night and some hiking during the day. The people at the motel, restaurant, and saloon were very nice and helpful. Check in was quick and easy for the hotel. There is filtered water at the motel office that is open 24 hours so you can refill your water bottles. It is very important to drink a gallon of water per person each day because it is so dry in Death Valley even in the winter. We also had packed hydration tablets to use during our stay. We ate dinner at the restaurant the first evening and ate dinner the second night at the saloon. It is the same menu at both places, the restaurant is more family oriented whereas the saloon is for adults. We also had the breakfast buffet at the restaurant both mornings. All the food was very good. This place is very close to the giant sand dunes which is fantastic place for star gazing, watching the sunrise, and watching the sunset. It is about a five minute drive from the hotel. We made sure to bring red light flashlights ( very important to help navigate the darkness of the sand dunes and allow your eyes to adjust with very little light pollution). We flew into Vegas and rented a car to drive to Death Valley which was about a 2 1/2 drive. We stopped at a store in Vegas and purchased a couple cheap bag chairs to sit in at night while star gazing. We gave them to another couple who were visiting the park when we left. It is really nice to have chairs to sit in for star gazing and also we brought blankets and dressed in layers because the desert gets cold at night. Wearing hiking boots with wool hiking socks helped keep us warm. If you are watching the sunrise and sunset - plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before the actual sunrise or sunset. It is amazing to watch the exact opposite direction of the sunrise or sunset to see the colors off the sand dunes and the mountain rocks. If you arrive too late, you really miss the whole experience. We went out at 4 AM one morning since that is when the sky was the clearest to see the amazing stars. We walked out into the dunes to be away from the light pollution and stayed for the sunrise at 6:30 am. It was so peaceful and beautiful.The hotel room was clean and comfortable with a small refrigerator. We were happy with staying here instead of the other options nearby because of the proximity to the sand dunes. It was about a 20 minute drive to the park ranger station which is closer to the other places to stay. Bad water basin was about a 45 minute drive from Stovepipe.

  A friendly Oasis at a reasonable price.

  A friendly oasis for Death Valley visitors at a reasonable price ( especially if you have a NP park pass).Clean and comfortable, with a staff that is always available and friendly, we would definitely go back. And, With a campfire most nights, we found a lot of travelers who were happy to share their stories.

  I liked it. It was simple but clean. Easy check in check out. You are way out in the desert which I liked. The least expensive of the three hotel options. I didn't eat there; I got my food in Pahrump (and recommend you do too if you want to save money). I did spend $20 at the saloon. They had some good beers on tap.

  Awsome location, nice hotel.We had a lovely stay in between amazing sunset and sunrise over the Mesquite Dunes.The Buffalo and Elk bergers were great, and the service was fine.Very comfortable bed and fresh air from the window we could open.Too bad, there was no coffee available except for purchase armt the restorant or the store.
