No notification that they are closing for a refurbishment at time of existing booking

We really enjoyed our stay here last year, so much so we booked well in advance for a repeat stay this year.I phoned today just to check something about the booking made months in advance and was told oops, we're closing for refurbishment. That was it. No apology, no offer to book us elsewhere, no explanation.Absolutely no notification has been sent to us about this. Stayed here for the night as we came to Manchester for the Manchester United game. Was in a good location at only 9 min drive to the old Trafford. Upon arrival, I was told I had to pay £14.50 a night to park my car there which I wasn’t made aware of when booking. I found it a little bit weird that the rooms don’t have a door for the bathroom. What a brilliant hotel. The location of the hotel was fantastic, not right in the hustle and bustle, but if you walk 5minutes you would be. The rooms were super spacious with lovely toiletries. One feature about the bedroom which we loved was the tv ... it still had "normal tv" rather than metflix etc. Simple pleasures.
