Only spent a night here so I did not check out the gym. Location was about a 20 minute walk from the lakefront & attractions. The immediate vicinity of the hotel did not have anything entertaining or scenic.Room size was generous & bed was comfortable. The shower was in a tub with a high step-up & it took awhile to figure out the dials for hot/cold water and rain/handheld shower. Usual… Only spent a night here so I did not check out the gym. I stayed here twice in two different years, and both times the experience was quite good.The room was spacious and clean. I stayed here for 2 nights. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was good as was dinner. The hotel is also close to the waterfront and walkable to shops in Lugano. The staff was also very kind and attentive. More than a dozen stays at Novotel Lugano, but more than 3 years after my last visit, my recent stay was the worst.Rooms are spacious and clean. Worst is mattress, it is now impossible to sleep without back pain. Used to be just fine.Breakfast used to be great, it is now subpar, even by Novotel standards. I've had the good fortune to stay in many many Novotels around the world from Conference hotels to more character filled establishments . This is a nice hotel ...spoilt by the worst hospitality standard I've encountered in 40 years. Management hides behind the staff , sending them forward with ridiculous edicts. The staff are petrified and repeat ''But the manager says'' in response to any query .… I've had the good fortune to stay in many many Novotels around the world from Conference hotels to more character filled establishments .
