  Not worth the money, do not recommend

  This is our third time visiting Weligama Bay Marriott and the standard has dropped considerably. We booked our rooms a week prior and requested check in an hour early at 2pm as we were traveling with an infant and he naps at the time. Upon arrival, when we mentioned this to the staff at the reception, she was quick to dismiss us saying they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate our request. When we mentioned it was because we were traveling with a one-year old, she laughed it off saying “all families are travelling with kids”. Funnily enough, she also mentioned that people were waiting “since 8am”, so they have to give the rooms to them first. At 2.50pm, we were given only one room and it took an hour for the other room and it was way past the standard check-in time.However, I really appreciate Miss Nishadhi who was very apologetic about the late room and provided us with late checkout at 1.30pm for that room.We also had an initial unpleasant experience at the Weligama kitchen restaurant. We wanted to have lunch while waiting for our rooms, and when we asked for the ala carte menu, we were almost forced to go with the buffet. And when we refused, the server, who was clearly not pleased said that the f&b discount would not be applicable because we didn’t have our room numbers.On the plus side, the beach is absolutely beautiful and swimmable. Also taste wise, the food was very good but desserts can be improved and the variety has decreased since our last visit.Overall, I strongly suggest that the staff correct their negative attitude. Also, considering the price increase throughout the years, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone again as it is definitely not worth the money.

  Basic Marriott hotel taking advantage of demand supply mismatch much better places to stay around beautiful villas

  We were 6 couples we stayed between 26 Feb -1 march we had all redeemed Marriott points & had gold status , we paid around 180 usd for breakfast per room on check in . The hotel itself is nice standard the balcony was beautiful. Would recommend not to have breakfast in hotel for 30 usd pp per meal there’s no macha ,fresh green juices no nuts ,oat almond milk we were vegetation’s the Indian food was out of stock always . Better options like shady lane etc with much better quality good at less than half the price and better exp is what mainly matters . Overall i felt becuase demand exceeds supply Marriot is getting price for jw Marriot with services of courtyard .   An amazing stay with next level comfort

  We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during our Sri Lanka trip. We absolutely loved everything that the hotel had to offer. The hotel is on a tall building overlooking the Weligama beach which makes the views from the sea facing rooms amazing. It was an amazing experience to wake up to the endless sea views. The staff were very professional and super helpful at every stage of our stay. We had a little surfing incident and they professionally did the first aid which we are truly grateful for. The breakfast buffet and the ala carte options were also great while being a bit on the pricey side for Sri Lankan prices. The location is also perfect for sightseeing and surfing. I would totally recommend staying here as there was so much to do and we could have stayed for 5 nights without getting bored and enjoying the Mirissa and Weligama experience more. Totally recommend this hotel. Now onto the specifics:Welcome: As soon as we got off the car to check in, we were welcomed by the staff and dancers performing local dances with a violin. The staff checked us in quickly while offering some welcome drinks. Due to our Marriott status, I think we were offered a room with one of the best views in the hotel as well. The experience was amazing after all and we were impressed by how modern, clean and new the room is.Room: The room was quite large with a large bed and a lounger sofa, a balcony with breath taking views of the ocean and a huge bathroom. The hotel was super clean everywhere. There was a TV with a good selection of channels however it lacked on demand services such as YouTube, Netflix etc. The bathroom was stocked with a good range of beauty products too. And also a comfy bathrobe and slippers were provided. We loved everything about our room and didn't want to leave at the end of our stay.Dining: While the restaurant for the main buffet is organized in a crowded manner, it provides a great range of local, Asian and Western dishes. The food was very tasty but as far as the Sri Lankan cuisine goes, it can get a bit spicy at times. They also deliver quite a nice range of food options at the pool side. We tried a few ala carte options for dinner and they were just as good as the buffet.Location: We found Weligama super convenient for many activities and we had to limit ourselves due to the limited time. We did snorkeling with sea turtles, whale watching, galle walking tour and everything was easily accessible. Also the town was more developed than most places we stayed and when we needed a first aid, we actually had a little clinic nearby that offers 24/7 health services. Service: The staff are very professional and helpful. They were doing everything in their power to help you and make you feel welcome. You go to the pool and ask for a towel, and they rush to set up the best location based on your preferences. You feel cared at every step of the way. Especially the person who helped us with a first aid kit when we had the surfing accident was great; quickly cleaning the wound and bandaging it. We don't know his name but we would like to thank him again for it.Hotel Amenities: The hotel offers a gym and a spa. Unfortunately due to limited time, we didn't have a chance to use them but they were great in size. Also the evening music were amazing at the bar and we truly loved the playlists. The sound levels could be slightly lower though as it was a bit too loud. Also, there was live music from nearby locations which lasted till quite a late time. While it was great music. It made sleeping a bit difficult.

  Great views & excellent staff

  This is a large resort located directly on the beach in the middle of the bay. The resort is a full service resort with several restaurants, bars a spa, gym, daily planned activities, etc…Our room was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable. There was also a nice view over the bay. It was my wife’s birthday & the staff was very thoughtful by decorating the bed and leaving g a nice treat. The staff at the hotel were very accommodating, friendly and attentive. Ridma Kawshal did an excellent job ensuring our stay was a good one. It is the tallest building on the bay and it can be quite busy over the weekend.

  My daughter and I had an amazing stay at the Weligama Bay Marriott Hotel. The room was stunning, comfortable and clean and we were looked after by Thineth the Guest Experience Host impeccably and he truly helped to make our stay an experience to remember.
