The historical hotel is located on San Vicente hill in the town of Monforte, 60 km from the walled city of Lugo. Its main access road is the A 6 motorway, taking the N 120 exit toward Monforte-Ourense near Ponferrada. Monforte is located 110 km from the town of Ponferrada, and the closest cities are Ourense (40 km), Lugo (60 km) and Santiago (117 km). Guests will find restaurants, bars, nightlife and bus and train station in Monforte, while Ourense and its many shops is a half-hour drive away. The beach in Vigo is approximately a 90-minute drive from the hotel. The Mother Clarisas convent and mediaeval bridge are just 300 metres from the hotel and the Sil canyons are half an hour's drive away.

Agreeable but just OK
Fortunately my son snagged all of us free rooms with our Amigos de Paradores points from former years so I can't comment on price. My room #214 had good AC and wifi connection, 2 chairs (one for the desk and one to sit in to read, which I appreciate), no note paper, pen or bidet. One to avoid.
The hotel is a former monastery set on top of a steep hill in the centre of town and the rooms and general amenities are well up to Parador standards but, unfortunately, the cuisine was not. The service at dinner was haphazard and slow, four of the seven red wines on the wine list were "not available" and there were no large bottles of carbonated water, only small ones. Outstanding Parador on the pilgrims route
This Parador is quite something. A converted monastry/palace. Complete with thick walls, courtyard and cloisters. High up on a hill. We opted for a Junior Suite - we were told that if you didn´t have this you could be located in the annex. Plus the hotel rates were not that high (compared to other hotels. Nice stay in Monforte de Lemos
Excellent location to walk to the town and nice area for hiking and sightseeing. Rooms were spacious and clean and the beds very comfortable. The front desk acts like a tourist office helping to define nice day trips. Come back after the construction activities have ended
Great location, the monastery is a very charming decor, the restaurant offers high quality foot but the cafetaria is slow with its service. The swimming pool is below average and it’s a pity that the outside dining experience is limited to the courtyard. Better come back after the construction has been finalized.
