  Affordable Stay with Room for Improvement

  We stayed at Hostal Athenas for 7 nights. Hostal Athenas is located at the heart of Sant Adrià de Besòs and is conveniently located right near the Artigues-Sant Adrià metro station, which is about a 3 minute walk away. There are plenty of different cafes/bars nearby for an inexpensive breakfast/lunch/dinner. The reception is not often manned so there is an automatic check-in machine outside, it was quite easy to process and check in. We had 2 rooms during our stay as we requested to move as our first room (202) had an adjoining room and it was very noisy from the adjoining room. Also, the fridge did not work, and the Television was tiny. We were moved to room 308, which was slightly better regarding the noise, and had a fridge that worked and a larger TV. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room, they are located in a little communal area on the 1st floor.The room was a decent size, with a kitchen sink, microwave and cutlery so you can easily make your own food there. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, maybe on the hard side and there was no proper duvet, just a thin sheet. However, the main problem was with the bathroom, it had drainage in the floor of the bathroom which must have been blocked as every time you used the sink, water would seep up from this drain, this must have been a problem for a long time because the bottom of the bathroom door was full of damp. This also caused a quite horrible smell. The sink itself was tiny, too small for me to be able to do anything comfortably. The more positive aspects of the room were that Wi-Fi was good with a stable connection and the air conditioning worked well. The cleaning service was good and was done every time we left the notice on the door and even when it wasn’t they knocked on the door and asked if we wanted anything doing.Overall, the best thing about this Hostal was its proximity to a metro station. We would probably stay here again unless there were better options.

  To crammed, 20 cm between wall and bed, but fusebox wallmounted in same spot. Used to no duvet when in south europe, but then at least a quilt wrapped in a sheet. Here nothing at all, perhaps ment to bring own sleeping bag? Beed is cheap from start and properly never was comfortable, but totally worn out. Room was freezing Cold, not possible to adjust temperature, blocked by steel plate on purpose. Had to sleep with clothes on and thus got a cold. Door to balcony blocked on purpuse (handle removed and replaced with note "Blocked") turning room into a firetrap. Bathroom sink leaking to floor, based on the looks of floor this is not a recent damage. Wallmounted TV has the size of an ipad, useless. No noise insulation, what happens in other rooms / other floors is also part of your journey: I could live with the couple having sex but the group of young drunks returning at 3:30 was a bit anoing. At 5 am the shops start to get grocerys and trash are removed. You get the joy of it all. Reception should open at 9, was closed. Phoned the emergency number, a very drowsy young man turned up and opened reception, i bet he was among the group of drunks from last night. I checked out after one night and lost 4 prepaid nights. I suggest that you book elsewhere,

  TERRIBLE!!! We almost got frozen…

  We were staying in the room 106 on the night of January 21.The temperature was freezing and there was no way to raise it because the thermostat was covered by a plate to prevent it...Also, on the morning of the 22nd there was no hot water and we couldn't take a shower…A disaster... Not recommended

  We stayed at Althenas for five nights in June, the room was basic but met our needs. We were upgraded to a room with a fridge free of charge which we were really grateful for as we could store water which was a life saver in the heat!! The room was clean, and the shower was lovely and powerful though if you had it on full power you were attacked by the shower curtains! The walls are very thin and we were woken by the man in the next room snoring and you can hear talking very easily. The reception staff were always really helpful and helped us visit a doctor and even spoke to them in Spanish for us so they new what we were visiting for. The hostel is about 20 minutes out of the centre depending where you get off but easily accessible via the metro which is a 5-6 minute walk from the hostel. We used the t10 travel card which is 10euros and allows you 10 journeys, we found this the easiest way of getting around with a toddler and buggy!! And travel cost us 30euros for the week for the three of us. Overall we had a nice stay at the hostel, there was always a bit of a sewage smell but we expect this is more to do with Barcelona's system overall rather than the hostel itself.

  Clean rooms, very friendly reception!!! Very quite neighborhood, nearby cafes, shopping area and supermarkets with a lot of locals and close to the beach!Recommended for those who are looking for less crowded places, bus and metro stops close to it and you will enjoy the place!
