Location

Tradition has it that King Alfonso I 'The Catholic' constructed this building on 21 February 746, and the excavations carried out at the start of the refurbishing work to turn it into a hotel confirm this theory. The current monastery was founded on this site and was run by the Order of San Benito until the Desamortización of 1835 (Large-scale selling of State and Church assets). Two rooms with archaeological remains, pottery in particular, uncovered during the refurbishing work are testament to this distant past. The town centre of Cangas de Onis lies some 1 1/2 km away and it is around 95 km to Oviedo-Aviles Airport.

Facility

2 single rooms and 64 double rooms are available to guests in a 2-storey main building and a 3-storey auxiliary building. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Services such as a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service ensure a comfortable stay. Wireless internet access (for a fee) is provided in public areas. Rooms

Air conditioning and individually adjustable heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Rooms have a double bed or a queen-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Guests will also find a mini fridge included among the standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. A hairdryer and a telephone are available in the bathrooms, which are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. As a special feature, bathrooms are also stocked with cosmetic products and a selection of towels. Wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms are also available. The hotel has non-smoking rooms.

A sun terrace is a great place to while away the hours.     Exceptional visit to this stunning Parador rich in history!

    What a lovely Parador; we have stayed at several, and this is now one of our favorites. The staff were so welcoming, and even took extra care to ensure our pet enjoyed the visit. The mountain vistas are stunning, and the efforts to preserve the history of this particular Parador were amazing. The restaurant highlighted local delicacies, and accommodated gracefully to dietary restrictions. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer to enjoy all of the activities the Parador offered.     This is the best Parador of our tour so far! Great Museum Parador, lovely quiet too. And great service. Food in the restaurant was Michelin star standard (respect to the chef) and we met the legend that is Ramon Palacious - the waiter who was so proud of his Parador, his region and the local cheese and cider!     Warm welcome and everything explained to us. Lovely room which was spotlessly clean and bathroom with eco friendly shampoo etc rather than packaged soap. Dinner was good. Portions large and in fact, too big for most people so saw some waste. One evening there was a large coach party in and service was extremely slow. The next evening the coach party went in early and good service returned. Breakfast was exemplary. Fruit, cereals, hot dishes, pastries, cheese, meats…Staff were all extremely friendly and tried to accommodate our efforts at Spanish.
