The central yet beautiful location makes the hotel an ideal base from where to explore the many sightseeing places and attractions in the greater Durban area. Guests will find restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, the beach and Umhlanga city centre are a 30-minute walk, the upscale Gateway Theatre Of Shopping is 10 min on foot and taxis depart from a stop 15 minutes' walk away. Durban International Airport is approximately 12 km from the hotel.

    We stayed 2 night at this hotel as were looking for a couple of nights to relax during a busy visit with family. It was just what we needed - quiet room, very comfortable bed and pillows and lovely sea view. The room had everything we needed and I loved being able to open the little balcony for fresh air and have a fridge to use. The pool area was well kept and very relaxing to sit at over our 2 days there. Breakfast was well above the standard of any Holiday Inn Express I’ve stayed in the UK/Europe, offering plenty to choose from each morning. We also had a great meal at the Butchers Block restaurant which is just next to the hotel, it was outstanding. The hotel is very well located only a few minutes drive from Umhlanga and an easy walk to Gateway shopping centre. What made this hotel special were the team, every person we met was just so friendly and helpful, offering to make your stay better any way they could. They consistently thanked me for my loyalty as an IHG Gold Member and made us feel so welcome and looked after - well done team!! Thank you for giving us a relaxing, enjoyable weekend.     We stayed there a few times in the last few months, we had an awesome time at the hotel, breakfast was excellent . The staff are very helpful , they are excellent !They accommodated our vegetarian needs at breakfast.     Absolutely fantastic stay with great staff and facilities. Good breakfast selection and some of the best beds and pillows that I've ever slept on.A little trek to the beach but definitely worthwhile.I highly recommend staying here.     Extremely Disappointed by Rude and Discriminatory Kitchen Staff

    We’ve been loyal guests at this hotel for years and have always appreciated the warm and welcoming service from the reception staff—they’re truly lovely and a major reason we’ve continued to return. However, during our most recent stay, we felt compelled to finally speak up about the kitchen staff, who have repeatedly shown rude, unaccommodating, and frankly discriminatory behavior.We’ve overlooked this in the past, hoping it would improve or assuming it was a one-off, but things have gotten worse. On our last visit, the breakfast experience left us feeling completely unwelcome. The kitchen manager consistently told us they didn’t have certain items—only to turn around and serve those exact items to other guests. When we asked for assistance, Princess was shockingly rude and dismissive. The attitude from most of the kitchen team made us feel like we were being treated unfairly and differently from others, despite being long-time regulars.We’ve never made a formal complaint before because the front desk staff have always gone above and beyond, and we didn’t want to cause trouble. But after this last visit, we truly feel that something must be said—otherwise, this unacceptable behavior will just continue. No guest should be made to feel uncomfortable, singled out, or disrespected, especially in a place they’ve supported for years.We sincerely hope management takes this seriously and addresses the unprofessional conduct in the kitchen, particularly during breakfast service.     Budget friendly with Exceptional Customer Service

    Great experience. Wonderful customer service. Budget friendly. This hotel is a go to for my family & I. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express multiple times. I'm wowed by the smiles of the staff and they're friendly demeanor as they deal with clients. They are very accommodating right from the front desk to housekeeping. I arrived on Thursday and I had wanted to book an extra night and the assistance I received at front desk on booking an extra night was awesome! My family & I left on Monday morning. Their on-site restaurant is quite lux and elegant and very handy for travellers who arrive/check-in late (like us). They have a really great menu catering for all palettes and it's child friendly too :-)The breakfast buffet is simple with all the power packed nutrients one needs to begin their day and it changes every morning with key staples like their mouth watering croissants which I enjoyed very much!For a budget friendly stay with executive customer service I would highly recommend Holiday Inn Express.
