  Still a beautiful grand hotel

  From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The Kempinski touch flows throughout this grand old hotel. The modern wing that has been added with the pool and spa very comfortable with long corner balconies making the rooms feel very spacious. I loved Portoroz, it and Piran thankfully still protected from the crowds from the cruise ships you suffer in Dubrovnik and other locations along this coast. The hotel has a nice private space on the beach side too with the staff keeping us well cared for. I will definitely return.   Relaxing and Lovely!

  What a beautiful location for an equally beautiful hotel! I did not realize there was a new and an old part of the hotel. We were oceanfront in the old section but we loved it. The lobby is spacious and very modern. We loved the wide hallways and the doorbells for the hotel room itself. The room was a decent size overlooking the gardens and out onto the beach. It was clean, service was prompt and it had all the amenities you expect. The new section, from the outside, is very modern and does not blend with the original part of the hotel at all. It did appear that those rooms had larger balconies to sit on, whereas, our balcony had 2 chairs that were literally placed sideways to fit. Breakfast was served in a grand room with a decent selection. The private beach part was great. We had a cabana/lounge area right by the water. Service at the cabana was meh- that would be the only negative. Great area to relax for a few days.   Beautifully situated and well managed hotel with good facilities

  We booked two rooms at this lovely property and stayed for four nights in August 2025. iMaps takes you to the front of the building, but it's easy to find the entrance by taking two left turns to the back. The rooms were spacious with stunning views of the coast. We dined at the hotel on two of the nights, in different restaurants. There is a good choice of food, though we think the lobster main course in the Sofia restaurant is far too small and we're unable to order sides to embellish it. The wine lists is excellent and there are some superb local Slovenian wines to explore. We enjoyed dining in the marina nearby in local fish restaurants where a fantastic variety of seafood is available. Drinks in the hotel bar - in the bar itself, on its pretty terrace and on the lawn under - were lovely and service was slick. There is plenty of choice at breakfast in the hotel's glorious crystal ballroom. This is managed by smart and friendly Maitre D' who greets you each day. We enjoyed our daily walk to Piran each day, which took around 45 minutes on foot. Its churches are stunning and the amazing views from the castle walls of Piran are a must-see. Two issues did occur during our stay, but we were so impressed by how the management dealt with them we regard them as quite forgotten. I would recommend this hotel warmly. It provided a very happy stop during our tour from Germany to Italy.   The Kempinski Portoroz Hotel is a very beautiful and well-maintained building. The hotel is very clean and the garden is in excellent condition. We stayed in the new part of the hotel and the rooms were very beautiful and spacious.“Unfortunately, we arrived at a time when the hotel was holding a competition to see who could go 30 days without laughing, and an estimated two-thirds of the staff were participating.” Perhaps the only place where the staff was pleasant was the breakfast restaurant. In most cases, the service can be described as professional, but not friendly or kind. As for the food, the high-quality breakfast deserves special praise; it is simply a Kempinski tradition that is carefully observed here.Room service – a disaster. I knew in advance from reviews by some colleagues that room service was slow. I can confirm this: food took almost an hour to arrive after ordering, even though 30–35 minutes had been promised, and instead of an apology, we were treated very arrogantly by the waiter. We didn't repeat this.The Fleur de Sel restaurant disappointed us. The food and service were very average. Prices were high. Therefore, we did not try any other restaurants in the hotel and ate outside the hotel.As for the beach, the review is mixed. The Kempinski Hotel has a beach club. The left side with sun loungers is free for hotel guests, while the right side has cabanas that you have to pay for. Only guests staying in suites have free cabanas. For others, the price is 125 euros, or 60 euros after a discount.The left side, where the sun loungers are, is very spacious. The umbrellas are very far apart. Unfortunately, there are no signs indicating that the club is only accessible to hotel guests and paying customers. So, from the morning onwards, locals gradually invade the front rows. By the afternoon, they completely occupy first row. The same situation occurs in the back rows, where the children of Cocoa bar guests invade, using the beach club as a playground. In addition, locals take a shortcut through the beach club to the parking lot to get to their cars, so the security of your belongings is non-existent. Yes, there are cameras, but they can only film someone, not catch them. Because the club is located across the road from the hotel, it does not have its own toilets. Hotel guests therefore receive a voucher (this is not a joke) which they can use to access public toilets, which are roughly on a par with those in the Paris metro. Ordering drinks is very impractical, as the staff have to run across the road from the hotel with every order. It makes much more sense to use the services of the adjacent restaurants.To sum up, I give this hotel four stars out of five.
