An historical location that is fascinating but horribly understaffed. We had to ask if there was a bar/lounge after we checked in and went to look. In hopes of having a pre-dinner drink we found an area with dirty dishes and no staff. There was a bar menu with drinks and snacks but absolutely no way to get a drink. Checked in via this hotel, the reception at this hotel was rude. Couldn't recommend, on a separate occasion I tried to ask about a bar and was told "closed" before I had chance to speak. King for a day! We had a fantastic experience at the Pousada do Castelo. We chose to stay in the main castle building (knowing the rooms are smaller) - but I wanted the “authentic” experience, and it was wonderful! There was a balcony adjacent to our room (room 202) - and it was great to sit in the afternoon and enjoy our complimentary glass of cherry liquor (a local specialty). We had stayed in a castle before in Spain but this one was a little different. We stayed in the tower which had 2 separate bedrooms and was kind of its own building. Very cool, however, our room had a strong smell that I did not care for. Our friends thought it might be an anti mold spray or something. We tried to keep the door open as much as possible. My wife and I spent 10 days in Portugal in July. We had an afternoon flight out of LISBON to go home. We stayed at the Pousada Castelo Obidos our last night. It was a perfect opportunity to have a very nice dinner and breakfast, to stay in a really nice room in a castle and do some last day shopping in Obidos before flying home.
