Location

Situated right in the heart of Viseu old town, in a building of great architectural and historical-cultural value, this hotel is part of one of the seven doors of the old Afonsina city walls, Porta de Soar de Cima. Restaurants, bars and shops can be found right on the hotel’s doorstep, while attractions such as the cathedral, Grão Vasco Museum and Parque do Fontelo are all less than 1 km from the hotel. It is an 80-minute drive to the Serra da Estrela skiing region and 130 km from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, Porto.

    This is an old hotel in the historic district. Its reasonably comfortable +- our room was spacious. Bathrooms have adequate lay down space for toiletries. Extensive breakfast.But it has a few flaws. The bed in our room was very low to the floor and the mattress felt thin. And the room had clearly held s king size bed that had been switched out for a queen - the side tables were very far away from the bed. Ventilation and lighting were a problem in the bath, and the shower had no grab bars and was a Jacuzzi tub with one of those swinging glass doors to prevent splatter - which I consider to be unsafe. And the shower and toilet were in a separate room from the lavatory with no towel racks in the lavatory area.

    Historic Hotel in Great Location and Spacious Rooms

    This is a beautiful historic hotel in a great location. The hotel is in the heart of the historic town, which makes it an ideal location. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated. Our room was very spacious with attractive new furnishings, a large bathroom and a lovely view from our window. The breakfast was also abundant and delicious. The staff were also considerate and caring.

    I paid $80/night for two nights, including breakfast. Credit cards accepted. Huge room with high ceilings and all the space you need. Huge bathroom with good shower pressure and endless hot water. Bed was fine. No noise from other rooms or the street. Excellent location close to the cathedral, the Grao Vasco museum, and the Church of Misericordia. Breakfast buffet was perfectly adequate. Wifi. Aircon. Minifridge. Staff efficient and professional. For eighty bucks a night, you can't do better in Portugal...

    The hotel is in an old, baronial palace. Completely renovated to modern standards, it still has the charm and charisma of its original use. The service was impeccable. Starting with the front desk staff member that checked us in, to the dining room attendants that helped us with the included breakfast. Parking was free, and because we travelled with our special needs grandson, it was guaranteed by that very attentive front desk staffer that even offered to move us to a more accessible room. A very nice and caring person. The room was very comfortable, and surprisingly noise free. The breakfast was very well served, and the staff very pleasant and efficient. I enjoyed exploring the part of the hotel that was left like it was originally, with his sitting rooms furnished with period furniture. The location, in the old part of town, was the best we could have hoped for. We could walk to most of the attractions in the city, and there were lots of very nice restaurants in the vicinity. In all, a very impressive stay at Montebelo Palácio dos Melos, Aveiro.     We had a very basic room in the hotel. It was clean, however, the double bed was very small.The shower was over the bath and the shower had fluctuating temperature which made it quite unpleasant. The breakfast had sloppy scrambled eggs, a variety of cheese and some highly processed meats.
