High expectations but a disappointing reality.

    rating13 Jan 2025

We would like to express our insatisfaction with the experience we had during our stay at this hotel, which fell far short of the expectations associated with a 4-star establishment. When booking through Odisseias, we specifically chose this hotel because it included a kitchenette, an essential feature for our trip since we have a 10-month-old baby. However, upon arrival, we discovered that the kitchenette was not available, contrary to the description provided at the time of booking. As a result, we were unable to prepare the food we had brought for the baby, and it had to be discarded as it was no longer fit for the return journey. Additionally, the baby still drinks milk, and the room lacked adequate facilities for its storage and heating. While a microwave was eventually provided, this improvised solution was insufficient to meet our needs. To make matters worse, we also encountered issues with the air conditioning. From the first night, we reported that the system was not functioning. We were informed that if the issue could not be resolved, we would be transferred to another room. However, neither was the air conditioning repaired nor were we moved to another room. During winter, the cold was uncomfortable not only for us but especially for our baby, who eventually fell ill as a result of this situation.Despite the hotel being beautiful and our satisfaction with the other amenities, we felt somewhat disappointed, as we paid a significant amount for an experience that did not live up to the expectations of a 4-star hotel.

DO NOT VISIT Until They Finish Construction and Beyond

    rating20 Jun 2024

Hotel has potential but service quality is low tier. Stayed here with my girlfriend a couple days ago. The location itself is nice. But the staff in every interaction were not welcoming despite my girlfriend being a native Portuguese speaker. There was mold in our bathroom shower that was visible. Seems their cleanliness is falling behind. They were also doing construction on the property during the stay where three men were operating heavy machinery just beside our room. They would only stop using it while we walked by and one would yell to the other to stop. Really? At a resort in peak season? Comedy. Additionally there was a truck digging up part of the road to do some work on the pipes underground that prevented Ubers from picking us up within the perimeter of the property so we had to walk around this construction and put our bags in the Uber. Both of these things were very noisy and by this point I still had not complained. I wasn’t going to write a complaint but after my final interaction with the front desk, I realized these things must be mentioned. I asked the front desk for a towel at 11AM precheck out so we could go relax by the pool which we hadn’t used since our check in. She didn’t ask us about our stay and was very short with us. It wasn’t a language barrier, my girlfriend was speaking to her in Portuguese. She did not ask us about how our stay was or anything of this demeanor. She said, once you check out you cannot use any of the property. I said, “let me get the towels first, then we’ll check out in an hour.” She looked at me puzzled, and said “it is not possible” as if I had done something against her. In terms of policy we were not doing anything wrong because we did pay until 12pm for our check out. I told her this, she then said “okay.”I mentioned to her that if there needs to be another charge to let me know what it is so we may stay with ease. I wanted peace and simplicity in our interactions. This is why you stay at a resort after all, right?Everything that was told to us by the front desk was agitating and felt robotic. The manager came over and had the gall to rapaciously talk over me as though she couldn’t be bothered to hear our circumstance without barking policy that we were not violating. Once she realized she was in the wrong she apologized but she would have realized it sooner if she didn’t talk over us condescendingly. I will never return to this place and I have never had a manager aggressively talk over me, ever. For doing nothing wrong. The icing on the cake is that she said they were trying to regulate the number of people on the roof because they have a lot of guests. Are you kidding? We are paying to stay, and turns out if I did a late check out, we could stay for as late I extended the check out anyways. They were exceptionally uninformative, unprofessional and lazy in their delivery for our accommodation. If you want to relax at all, do not come here. If you want to battle with a manager who is a professional in delivering headaches, look no further. What I suggest: stay very far away until they finish construction and learn the basics of hospitality.

All “Fur Coat and No Knickers”

    rating02 May 2024

All fur and no knickers…A ghost estate of rundown pods, or single bed units. Façade is maintained but it stops there. Behind the facade was so dirty, I decided to purchase snacks and make an ad hoc picnic. Staff are shamelessly rude. Kitchen: check out the menu of waste pork-cuttings. Slow cooked for reuse

    I would but I can't

    rating09 Oct 2023

This hotel immediately made me think of the phrase "I would like but I can't" because it has the potential of a 5-star resort, but unfortunately the services stop much earlier. The structure is surrounded by cork trees, but there is no maintenance: the flowerbeds are not well cut, the external lights do not all work, the paint on the structures where the rooms are located are off. Inside the rooms are spacious, clean but the blackout curtains did not work. In the main building there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a sauna and a gym. For breakfast they assign slots to choose from, although there isn't that much turnout. The same goes for the restaurant in the evening, where the food is quite good but not excellent. In summary, with a few adjustments this structure could be wonderful, at the moment it is only decent Ana Patricia Duarte, Diretor-Geral at Ecorkhotel Evora, responded to this review Dear guest, First of all, we would like to thank your time to review Ecorkhotel Évora and your comments, which allows us to improve the work we do daily. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again, in a near future. Best regards, The Ecorkhotel Évora Management

A poor initial experience that improved through our stay

    rating07 Aug 2022

Not a great start but did get better through the 4 days. Our arrival was frosty, especially madame manager who couldn’t crack a smile for her customers. Next it’s a 4 star hotel that wanted payment for the room upfront. Then they didn’t accept Amex and finally, laundry service was suspended but they could give us the details of do it yourself launderettes in the town. Not a good start to our expensive stay. That said we had a very nice bungalow, well maintained and a nice cool retreat from the blistering summer heat. Great shower pressure, comfortable beds. All the important things for a vacation. The weird process of having to book specific times for breakfast and dinner didn’t make much sense, especially since there were never more than 4 tables occupied for the times we were there. Could be a process still in place from the pandemic. The jewel was the roof pool and solarium. A lovely place to chill after tourism. The staff we engaged with were very nice and helpful. It’s a shame our initial experience was tainted by management and some obscure policies you’d not expect for a hotel with 4 stars.
