Enjoyable stay in a historic building

Arrived during a heatwave and the former convent was a cool escape from the heat. Very good service throughout our stay. Large and comfortable room with a decent bathroom. The air conditioning found it hard work but other than that everything was good. Really enjoyed the variety of breakfast. This former convent Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. The staff was attentive and kind. The surroundings were beautiful and comfortable and plentiful. A very fine pousada in an old convent - so there is very much space everywhere - including big rooms and bathrooms. Reception was helpful. This is one of the best Pousadas we have stayed at. It is magnificent and very spacious, having a small number of bedrooms but huge spacious areas. Well done Pestana on not ruining the magnificence of the building while creating an exceptionally comfortable, indeed luxurious, hotel.The bedrooms are the old monks's cells (Yes although it is called a convent, it was Franciscan monks who stayed here)… This is one of the best Pousadas we have stayed at.
