Enjoyed the Wonderful City of Panama City

    rating18 Nov 2025

Hello All,My wife and I just came back from celebrating our 32nd Wedding Anniversary with a stop in Panama City before continuing to Curacao. We took advantage of the Copa Airlines Stopover program, which is as follows: "With Stopover, you can stop in Panama on your outbound or returning flight, at no additional airfare. This stop can last from 24 hours up to 6 nights / 7 days". So we flew from LAX to Panama City on November 7th and stayed until November 10th, staying at the Marinn Place Financial District. We checked in early for a $30 fee and were assigned to room 1504, which was a single king bed with a pull-out sofa bed. It was an average-sized hotel room, the bed was comfy, and being on the 15th floor gave us a fantastic view of the financial district. In addition, a morning breakfast buffet was available (the food and selection were ok), there is a rooftop swimming pool and some tables where you can eat by the pool if you so choose to. I would say that the location, cleanliness of the hotel, the cleaniless of the room and the overall location of the hotel would allow me to highly recommend staying at the Marinn Place Financial District. My wife and I really enjoy walking, so the Marinn Place location was perfect for us. On Saturday, we took an Uber from the hotel to the Panama Canal (Uber is very convenient and cost effective) arriving around 0945 (note that the ships seem to start transiting the canal around 1300hrs, we found out the hard way and had to hang around for a few hours but seeing the ships work their way through the canal was so worth it), so we watched the IMAX 3D movie about the Panama Canal which was narrated by Morgan Freeman (don't miss this, it is very informative), and were able to watch three huge ships (car carriers and oil tanker) and a tour boat transit the canal. Now, while we were sitting in the morning sun, waiting to watch the ships roll in, we noticed that there was a Red Hop On/Hop Off Bus in the parking lot. I was not aware that it was available in Panama City, so I bought tickets for the next day, Sunday. I do highly recommend using the Hop On/Off Bus because it takes you to 15 stops (2 are the same stops, so really 14) of the more popular tourist attractions in PC. If you will be in PC for multiple days, I would buy the two-day tickets, and if I had known about the Hop On/Off, I would have done two days. We stopped at Casjo Viejo/Antiguo (bus stops here twice and I highly recommend spending sometime here) and Amador Causeway (highly recommend both of these stops) but we wanted to get off at Downtown Amador and Mi Pueblito, but we just didn't have enough time because we had dinner reservations. For our dining, we had lunch on Friday at Concolon Panamanian Street Food Café (great food and amiance), had Korean Wings for dinner (ate on top of the hotel by the pool), Sat dinner was at Restaurante El Trapiche Dinner and Show (it was along 5 min walk from the hotel), pretty interesting cultural dance show, lunch on Sunday was at Sarboso (delicious) and for Sunday dinner, we ate at Cielo Rooftop which is adjacent to the POIN Building (highly recommend both) which we also visted.

    Great value for money

    rating02 Nov 2025

Marinn Place Financial District, great value for money! Great value for money, spacious clean room, minifridge, sitting area. Breakfast included. In house restaurant, gym, self service laundry. Located close to restaurants and fast food places, a pharmacy just across the street and easy walking distance to 2 supermarkets. 2 metro entrances nearby. Would definitely highly recommend.Cons.... No microwave or coffee maker in the room. That's it.

    Disappointing

Pretty decent property, but terrible management, they will nickel and dime you. Breakfast totally sub-par, poor selection, unfriendly servers. All in all extremely rigid corporate management.

    A great budget-friendly, comfortable hotel! 4.75 stars!

    rating28 Jun 2025

I visited Panama City, Panama from June 17th – 24th and stayed at Marinn Place Financial District. As a budget traveler, I look for a clean and comfortable room, safe area, with breakfast included---all at an affordable price. As a spoiled citizen of the U. S., I also need good air conditioning! A bonus is that the hotel is centrally located and it was easy to get to places to eat, shop, and go on excursions. Marinn Place is the perfect lodging to accommodate all those needs. I was pleased with the size of the room and the bathroom as well as my view from the 15th floor. The room has a good-sized closet with hangers, an iron and ironing board as well as drawers for clothes storage under the television. There is also a small refrigerator in the entertainment unit as well. The room I stayed in had a king size bed which was very comfortable! A desk and chair are also provided in the room. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff serving breakfast were also nice. I was most impressed with the housekeeping staff on my floor. The lovely lady who cleaned my room was friendly and always kept my room and bathroom spotless. The breakfast was decent. The hotel provides breads, pound cakes, a protein (sausage or chicken), eggs, pancakes, cereals, cold cuts and cheeses, fresh fruit, along with coffee, juices and water. If you’re looking to cut corners, the breakfast is adequate but there are certainly better breakfast/brunch options to explore in the city nearby. I ate the hotel breakfast for three mornings and it saved me buying breakfast on those days. But you’ll want to check out a couple of places like Michael’s Restaurant or Casi Cielo Brunch and Coffee. I'll provide reviews of those places as well.I did not try the hotel restaurant, though I did hear mixed reviews from people that were also staying there. Most opted for eating out in Panama City. With so many wonderful places to eat, I recommend going out to eat and trying all that the city has to offer. There are lots of budget friendly places to eat, especially compared to the States. If you need a snack, however, the hotel does have two cases near the front desk to purchase items such as sub sandwiches, chips, desserts, candy bars, donuts, and coffee/cappuccinos/lattes, etc. Be sure and have cash on hand for the snacks. The snack/coffee bar only accepts cash. Other amenities the hotel offers is a gym, a small pool, a spa and a laundry area, all at the top of the hotel. The laundry is cheap ($2 for both washing and drying) and if you forget laundry detergent, no worries! They have a vending machine for laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets. The dispenser did not give me the detergent, so I had to go and ask for that at the front desk. You may want to do that before taking your clothes up to launder. They do offer change at the front desk for the laundry room but don’t always count on it. The day I went to get the coins I needed, the front desk was out but luckily the people at the snack bar were able to give me the change I needed. Uber is great advantage in Panama City and the hotel is also helpful in setting you up with transportation to and from the airport if needed. I recommend using Uber as they are cheap and easily accessible from the hotel. The only cons for me were the room keys and the lack of communal space to sit and chat with my friends at any time. The room key (a card) only gave me access to my floor and the common areas. I realize this is for security but when travelling with friends who are staying on a different floor, it was a bit of a hassle. It was difficult to meet up with them without heading to the lobby first and then back to whichever room we wanted to sit and chat in. Also, I wish they had a dedicated area that was open 24/7 for their customers to use to sit and chat, use laptops, etc. We were politely asked to leave one night around 10 or 10:30. Another benefit would to be able to purchase snacks with a debit or credit card instead of cash. These were only minor complaints, though, and didn’t really impact my enjoyment of the stay. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Marinn Place and I would definitely stay there again. Highly recommended from this budget traveler!

Unsafe, Coercive Experience – Forced to Leave Early

    rating11 Jun 2025

I prepaid for a 7-night stay at Marinn Place Financial District through Booking.com, arriving June 9, 2025. Upon check-in, I was charged an unauthorized $33 USD fee that was never disclosed in my reservation or the hotel’s registration form. When I questioned the charge, hotel staff threatened me with a $100 USD fee for simply having a guest visit — again, with no written policy or warning. This conduct was clearly retaliatory and coercive, and made me feel unsafe. I was placed under emotional and financial duress. The situation became so hostile that I was forced to check out early, losing the remainder of my prepaid stay. I have since filed formal complaints with:Booking.comMy bank (Rogers Mastercard)Panama’s consumer protection authority (ACODECO)Travelers deserve transparency and safety. This hotel failed on both. Proceed with caution.
