    Really outstanding service

Where else are you going to stay in Balestrand in the off season? Everyplace else, including the restaurants, were closed. Fortunately, this is a really nice hotel. Two things worth reviewing: (1) the staff went out of their way to help us on several occaisons. It was raining on our full day in Balestrand, so on the way to breakfast we asked the front desk clerk (Raquel) for things to do on a rainy day (long hikes being unpleasant in the rain). After breakfast, Raquel gave us a 2-page printed list of nearby indoor activities, with descriptions and directions. Another staff member accomodated our unusual (COVID-19 related) seating requests in the dining hall.(2) Although the web site says this, please understand there are two parts to this hotel: the old, historic part, and a "modern" newer annex. Our room was in the modern wing, and we were glad it was. We heard someone in the old wing ask the front desk for help with suitcases--because there were no elevators in the old wing. (A side note, even our room in the modern wing didn't have a room safe, which is unusal for an upscale hotel like this one.)

    Beautiful, historic hotel in Balestrand

Amazing, beautiful hotel right on the water in Balestrand. We took a boat from Flam and it dropped us off right at the hotel. We loved the views from everywhere in the hotel, and the huge dining room and large spread for meals was very impressive! Great overall experience. Thank you for having us!

    Memorable and Magical

A wonderful experience in this historic hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They gave great hiking advice. We enjoyed the excellent breakfast buffet each morning with incredible views of the water and boats. The evening smorgasbord was also delicious. We enjoyed walking throughout the historic rooms on the main floor and enjoyed a game of cribbage one evening in one of the rooms. The grounds were beautiful and a great place to stroll and take in the views.Loved our Demi suite. Large and very comfortable with amazing views from the windows and our deck.We were able to charge our rental right at the hotel which was a plus. There was no coffee in the lobby for guests. We had to pay at the bar for a cup. Only negative.Delightful stay!
