Valente the Rockstar at Marriott City Express Plus Tijuana

    rating02 Sept 2025

Dear Executive Offices,I want to give a huge shout-out to Valente at the front desk of Marriott City Express Plus Tijuana. I’ve stayed at this hotel more than 33 times, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back it feels like home.Valente was absolutely phenomenal. With a line of over 30 people waiting to check in the weekend of Labor Day he was the only one at the counter, yet he handled it all with patience, professionalism, and a genuine smile. Not only was he checking in guests, but he was also answering phones, helping with questions, grabbing luggage and blankets, and assisting Americans despite language barriers. He moved nonstop, making sure everyone was cared for, and never once looked frustrated or overwhelmed.Every time I arrive, the staff makes sure I have what I need an English-speaking TV channel, an extra blanket, and quick help through WhatsApp whenever I reach out. From the security team in the parking lot, to the shuttle drivers, to engineering, to the front desk everyone here truly understands what customer service means. My Spanish isn’t great, but your team’s English always bridges the gap. Thank you for consistently making me feel at home. Valente, in particular, is a rockstar employee and a shining example of service excellence. Marriott City Express Plus Tijuana is lucky to have him.Sincerely,Miss Allen

    Good Stay

    rating01 Jul 2025

In TJ for one night. I give it a good for what it is, its purpose. This is not a vacation hotel, it's a convenience hotel. Do your homework, know what you are getting. i.e. no pool. Overall value was fine.Staff was friendly and helpful. Property and room were nice, clean and fairly well appointed. Free continental breakfast was fair enough. If you get an upper floor street side room, the views are expansive. Not sure how busy they were, this was a Friday check in and check in was a firm 3pm. Really appreciated the 1pm checkout. Only negative I found was the street level lobby (as opposed to the 1st floor check in area) was much too heavily scented. Apologies to Luz (I think). I usually like to leave something in the room for the house keeping staff. but due to an unexpected circumstance I had no cash at checkout. If I find myself in the area anytime in the near future, I'll try and make good on that.

    Terrible experience!

    rating31 Aug 2024

My partner and I traveled to this hotel on Labor Day weekend 2024, for 1 night and had the following negative experiences. (1) Upon arriving in the parking lot, the parking lot attendant informed my partner and I that the parking lot was full, even though we had prepaid reservations. Upon driving in the lot and underground parking garage several times, we found a spot behind a vehicle that was then boxed in by our vehicle. The parking lot attendant stated that they would call our room and request us to come to the garage at any given time, if the vehicle in front of ours needed to move. (2) We arrived to the lobby around 10:00 pm and ended up in a line of people to check in. There was only one Receptionist. Although he was courteous and professional, there were too many people for just one employee to process in a reasonable time, as evidenced by us not receiving our room until around 11:30 pm. People were tired and frustrated, kids were crying, people were complaining, and some folks had to walk a block to the hotel, after parking on random streets where their cars were unsecure. (3) Our room wasn't the cleanest, as evidenced by sticky table tops, hair in the tub, stains on walls, and dirty furniture. (4) Continental breakfast was included in the price, but for the buffet, which only had beans, chicken stir fry, and an omelette, $30.00 seemed unreasonably priced. Additionally, there was not enough seating for guests. (5) Check out was too early (10:00 am), with no exceptions for a later check out. We chose this hotel because it has a pet friendly policy and we were traveling with our maltipoo. Although this hotel is a nice and modern building, it is seemingly managed extremely poorly. We definitely would have expected better from a Marriott Brand hotel and will not be returning!!

    STAY AWAY

    rating07 Jul 2024

Unless you want a frustrating stay, avoid this hotel. The small, slow elevators can only fit a few guests, causing long waits. The rooms are small and lacking in amenities, despite the comfortable beds. Refunds take 3-4 months via bank transfer, Marriott corporate stated they would open an escalation ticket, one must enter a building, then take elevator to L for lobby. Hotel staff needs to be re-trained in hospitality 101. Encountered an employee who didn’t offer the elevator, yet, he asked for our room number (which you never give out) and he said okay and went on his way. The only redeeming factor is the delicious ceviche across the street at mariscos los cancho.

    Dirty Rooms and Rude Staff

    rating17 Sept 2023

Beyond the location and free parking being nice points, forget this place unless you want to waste money and enjoy being talked to rudely. The hotel room is very dark even with all of the lights on. The water from the shower comes out as a slow sprinkle (not a rain shower!). DIrt on the floor, especially corners, I would expect such at a homless shelter. They give one exceptionally thin and stained towel per guest, no wash cloths (though hygine being a value, I probably would not have used it). I have never encountered ruder and non-service oriented staff in any business, let alone a hotel. After we paid cash for 2 nights upon check in and knowingly had to wait a half-hour for the room to be ready, when it came time to receive our key fob, a changeover in front counter staff resulted in some gruff clown (tall bearded guy) insisting that we only paid for one-night. He backed off after I showed him our receipt, without an apology of course. Was he going to keep the $ for himself??? We discovered the next day that this same character only programmed the fob to work the 1st night. When I apprached him the next day, he denied such and rudely said it was my fault because "no one" ever puts fobs in their wallet or purse because other credit cards will de program them -- something that has never happended to me over decades. A cafeteria adult busboy was extremely rude with a lecture to my wife at sit down while I was filling my plate that we should not waste food that comes with the free breakfast. He and another adult busboy incorreclty assumed we do not speak Spanish as we heard them saying that they expected we were going to steal food from the breakfast buffet to eat for lunch. We also heard a busboy tell a cusotmer that he could not take a cup of coffee up to his room, rather he would have to go down the street to a convenience store for coffee in a paper cup. My question is who hired these people with inept social skills? We will never again set foot in any Express Hotel. Marriott needs to drop them as a partnered hotel.
