  Good quality hotel in a great location

  This was a very conveniently located hotel a few easy subway stations away from Sapporo Station. Exit 3 of the Nakajima-Koen stop is the most accessible to the hotel (it was as if the exit was built just for the hotel!), however be warned that there isn’t a lift at this exit (just escalators) in case you have large suitcases to contend with. We got a great twin room on the 8th floor with fab views of the park, still we needed to move the two arm chairs and coffee table around to fit both our suitcases comfortably. To be fair it was already quite a large room for Japan standards but we just wanted to move around more comfortably. Breakfast options were either the buffet on the ground floor, or the Japanese set on the 11th floor. They had takeaway coffee/tea at the breakfast area, so we filled up our thermos for our day out a couple of times (very useful as you’re wandering around outside in -10c weather). As we stayed for 5 nights we had a bit of both. There is a gift store as well as a cake shop in the hotel. Also a postbox that you can drop your postcards in. Restaurant wise, we found the immediate surroundings a little scarce on eateries (also because we were there over the new year period, and many places were closed) but jumping onto the subway to get to Susukino or Odori will set you up for a huge variety of restaurants. Overall, it was a nice stay. I would have given it 5 stars if the rooms were a little more updated. There was a sense of stale, old school formality about it (perhaps great for some but I prefer a more modern, young feel).

  Quiet but convenient location

  Having stayed a number of times at Sapporo station and Susukino areas, I’ve targeted Nakajima Park area this round for a different experience. The key criteria of the Nakajima Park area hotel has to be near a subway station entrance as it’s winter so I may opt not to drive during the evenings. Eventually we settled at Sapporo Park Hotel given its proximity to the subway station entrance. It’s also the hotel which I stayed for the longest period among the 9 hotels in my 17 days trip but yet also the one that fell short of expectations. I will rate it as a 3 stars stay.Upon arrival, the lobby looks impressive and reminiscent of a 5 stars hotel. As we reached the hotel in the late evening, there was nobody to help out with our luggages which we duly understand given the unusual arrival timing.The room as expected, was aged and in need of a major revamp. That is probably why the hotel is going to under a major revamp come 2026. It’s however clean and is well equipped, so it served its need sufficiently. The view out of the window gave a magnificent view of Nakajima Park, which made a good venue for a morning stroll before staying the long day of sight-seeing.What let the hotel down was the front desk service. The front desk, being the cover page of the hotel, did not give a good impression. The Japanese front desk lady which did my room check-in spoke the best English among all that I’ve met in my 17 days travel. Despite her English capability, she was the most complacent and just wanted to do a quick job and as a result, didn't provide me with all the information required as a room guest. For instance, she didn’t ask whether I drove so as to brief me on the necessary parking process information. She only seemed interested to do a quick check-in and collect the room fees. It’s only after I reached my room, did I realised that I was not asked for the car plate number nor provide me information on the parking, so I’ve to make a call to the front desk and was told to bring my parking coupon to them the next morning….During the 4th day of our stay, I went to the front desk to check if the hotel has a lost and found section as kiddo left an earmuff at the lobby the previous night. The staff who manned the front desk happened to be the one who checked me in during the first night, called the cleaning department in my presence, to find out if they have found any. But when the cleaning department did not pick up the phone after 5 seconds, she immediately told me that they did not find any. If I need to put a word on her work attitude, it has to be “sloppy” and she has let the hotel down. Her sloppy service attitude essentially removed 1 star from the hotel rating, else if her service was up to the usual standard as per the other 8 hotels I’ve stayed in during this trip, I would have rated the hotel 4 stars.

  Service is good. Breakfast at the hotel is good with option for international and Japanese food. Slightly away from the tourist area but still within walking distance and hence quiet. No free parking though but there is subway nearby next to the park

  Unexpectedly great! Booked a last minute room when our flight was cancelled on the executive floor and was pleasantly surprised! The room was spacious & clean, the Japanese breakfast both in the restaurant and in our room was delicious! The location right on the park and next to the nakajimakoen station is fabulous- especially when snowing! And the service was impeccable- friendly, helpful! Stay here!

  Western Foreigners Welcome!

  Western foreigners are welcome at this hotel. You will be treated with courtesy and respect here. There's usually an employee proficient in English at all times in most hotel areas. Or they will ask to get back to you and they actually will within ten minutes. Be patient and understanding and it will be reciprocated. Hotel management should hire foreign guest workers not only on their work experience and skills but also on their professionalism and work culture and ensure that Japanese, cultural norms are adhered to. Guest workers should not try to use hotel resources and assets to make private profits for themselves at the detriment of customers. Big thank you to manager Mz.Mizumo who made our stay a pleasant one. (I would hire her immediately if I were still in the hospitality industry).The in-house restaurants all used msg (daijin) mono sodium glutamate in their food offerings. There were only three dishes that didn't have msg. As someone with severe msg allergies, I had to make do with 7_11 take out. We tried Uber eats but the hotel won't allow Uber delivery citing their commercial agreement with the in-house restaurants. This must be improved upon.Sleep quality is five stars. Great matress and pillows. Great Housekeeping kept the room meticulously clean. Try and get a park/mountain view room. It really makes a difference. Hotels are of course business entities. The Park Hotel took the profit angle a little too far when after an eight day stay they asked for $30 late check out fee for an hour and $40 for two hours despite there being no incoming guests for the room we vacated. Counting nickels and dimes will lose you dollars! The worst part of the room was the bathroom. Designed extremely small to add more space to the room I would bump my head to the bathroom door when getting up from the toilet. There are absolutely no handles for support to get in and out of the bathtub. I slipped every single time I was getting out and stopped showering as a result. Pictures attached. The bathroom has a high step up ledge which can trip you up. So if you're older or have mobility issues this bathroom is not for you. One would need excellent slip and fall insurance in the U.S. and Europe for this bathroom.
