  Good value, convenient location, new renovation

  I checked in on Apr 5 afternoon for 6 nights after our ski trip at Niseko. The staff who assisted us with the check in process was Nishi, and there was one more male staff who helped us with the parking as the parking staff was out for lunch. The first impression was very unwelcoming. The male staff had no smile at all throughout the process, and did not offer any help with the luggage given that we have a child with us. Although Nishi was fast with the check in process, however, her English definitely needs a major upgrade as we could not make out what she was talking about. However, to be fair, other staff that we had encountered were very professional and cheerful without taking into account their English level.Our room was an Executive Twin Room, spacious enough to have 3 beds set up. Even though our room was close to the lift, it was very quiet. One last point about the toilet, the auto light was off too soon, so it’s a bit inconvenient.

  A Comfortable Return to Mitsui Garden Sapporo

  This was our second time staying at Mitsui Garden Hotel Sapporo—our previous visit was back in 2016—and the fifth hotel in our current journey. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a room on a higher floor this time, which felt more spacious than before. The twin double beds were a nice upgrade, though the room did feel a bit tight due to the amount of furniture.While the room showed some signs of age, the TV was a welcome surprise with access to Netflix, YouTube, and a variety of other channels.   Decent 3 star business hotel, close to railway station

  Our first experience in staying in a Japanese hotel – it is within walking distance (just over 5mins) to the Sapporo railway station and the Paseo (underpass) shopping area, and a Daimuru department store, which makes it easy to access the subway system, shops, and a range of restaurants. The hotel is about 10 years old, so a little dated but as it doesn’t cater for large groups it is a lot more personable. The lobby is relatively small, so it is potentially an issue if a large number of people are trying to check in at the same time.Our standard double room was compact (16sqm) but clean, well laid out and functional. Lacked wardrobe space and with the clothes press & dehumidifier there wasn’t much room to store our suitcases. Probably should have booked a deluxe room on a higher floor. The bathroom was a decent size, with a bathtub & shower, and there are a range of free toiletries available in the lobby.Our package included breakfast, which is served in the ground floor café. Because of the size of the dinning area there is always a queue of guests waiting to get in for a morning meal, so I recommend going early. The food was mainly Japanese style but a good selection and constantly being refreshed by staff.They do have an onsen (public bath) for guests on the second floor and a lounge area on the first floor, which in hindsight we should have taken advantage of. It would have been handy if the hotel had a drink vending machine or provided complimentary water bottles.   The staff Issei Yamane makes a difference for my stay to be extremely pleasant. He has gone extra miles to help with requests so that I enjoyed my trip very much! People do make a difference.   Close to Sapporo Station with All the Amenities

  The one tangible benefit of staying in Sapporo versus Tokyo is that it's a lot cheaper. For a moderate double room, my husband and I paid only $94 per night versus $246 in Ginza. Granted we were not in the world's most populous city, but Sapporo is not without its unique charms. After all, we liked it enough to make our second trip to Hokkaido.We already knew the superior Mitsui Garden brand from our previous two Tokyo stays. Their attributes and amenities were all here - impeccable front desk service 24/7, a spacious public bath, a private fridge to store our Family Mart sandos and Coke Zeros. What's more, our room was discernibly larger than the same category room at the Ginza Gochome.We even had space enough for a couch in front of the window. Beyond the internal considerations, proximity to Sapporo Station was the chief draw as we were steps away from the city's central transport hub.
