Beware the offer of 'Free Upgrade'

On arrival we were offered a free upgrade as we were staying for 5 nights. First impressions of the 'upgrade' room were underwhelming. Larger yes, with a bath and extra small bed but appeared quite dark. This was the family room. The safety deposit box didn't work. We checked the batteries and they were leaking.
