We were kindly greeted and welcomed to the hotel. Our rooms were clean and we ordered chocolates and sparkling wine which was waiting in our room upon our arrival. We tried to reserve a private sauna to watch the northern lights, but it was broken. That is the only reason it isn't a 5 star rating. Staff were extremely pleasant! Due to weather, we needed to leave early in the morning and staff had to-go bags of pastries and coffee. We so much appreciated their thoughtfulness and felt treated like family. We stayed at multiple properties during our stay in Iceland and UMI was, by far, our favorite!

Unique Boutique Hotel in Great Location for SE Iceland

The Umi is a unique boutique hotel. There are many things to like about it. The service is excellent and so is the restaurant for both dinner and an included breakfast. Booking tours through the hotel is easy in advance and the communication from the tour desk is excellent. The location is convenient in the Southeast with excursion base camps only about 20 minutes away in either direction and about 35 minutes from Kiv. All of the above is 5 star. The reasons for the 4 rating is that the rooms are VERY small (and we booked a "deluxe"). There are no individual thermostats and the rooms were very hot with the only way to regulate temperature is through opening a window (not ideal, especially during snow showerers). The beds were not comfortable, consisting of a box spring and a "topper". I would expect more for what we paid.

Umi hotel was a dream! We booked two rooms next to each other as we have two children and it was a perfect arrangement as the hotel is compact enough for the adults to have a drink at the bar while feeling at ease that our children were nearby hanging out in their room on the same floor. Thankfully, our kids are old enough to behave because most of the guests were adults (couples) which meant the atmosphere was peaceful and dignified throughout our stay. The staff were lovely, polite and warm, yet non intrusive. The food at the breakfast buffet was excellent - Fresh, varied and refined. (They do scrambled eggs and bacon so well!). Dinner at their restaurant was world class, michelin star quality. Worth every penny. Our 8 yr old son had one small gripe though, he was a little disappointed that the beautiful bathroom didn't have a bath tub. For the adults, we were happy with the gorgeous hotel sauna with the stunning view of the mountains!

Very pleased to have stayed here - small and intimate hotel with neat rooms. If you are lucky, the aurora will appear over the mountain opposite.

Beautiful Hotel in a Fantastic Location

What a beautiful hotel in an amazing location. Great food and great staff. We were able to walk to the nearby beach and were only people for as far as we could see. Really beautiful. We were also able to see the Aurora borealis which was an incredible experience. This was our first visit to Iceland and we will be back!
