I could see northern lights from hotel

My family stayed 3 nights at Stracta Hotel. We booked a room with hot tab. It was very nice and hot despite cold weather. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The best thing was I could see the northern light from the hotel's yard. I didn't need to go somewhere in the night.

We had an unexpected stop here when our car broke down on the way to Reykjavik. Katerina (sorry for spelling) was so incredibly kind and helpful, and really made a stressful situation much easier for our family. We are so grateful to her!The hotel itself has nice communal areas, and the rooms are fine but fairly basic. There are two small hot tubs which weren’t as hot as they could have been.It does seem to attract school groups and bus tours, but that didn’t impact our stay. A shame they didn’t have any Icelandic fish at breakfast (I love the herring!).Thank you again 🙌🏻

A very comfortable hotel with a great location, excellent staff and dining options. Staying in Hella reduced our driving times to various sites in southeast Iceland and made for better Northern Lights viewing while still making it easy to return to Reykjavik and Keflavik airport.

Never stay in Stracta Hotel!!!!

Traveling with GJ travel tour bus. Worst hotel to stay in. They opened up a new section where you have to walk through unfinished sections 1/4 mile to get to the rooms. Along the way the hallways are filled with construction materials including OPEN paint, sparkle, carpet glue all giving off toxic gasses which causes cancer!!! Then my wife takes a shower and the pipe in the wall burst open flooding the flooring. Stay away from this hotel!!!!

We were really looking forward to our stay here having been recommended by friends who stayed a couple of years ago. Sadly however, this stay hasn’t been great. I had messaged the hotel about a month before we arrived because I ways planning to propose and had asked if the hotel could arrange some chocolates and champagne etc for the room. They never got back to me so I asked when I arrived, which was hard as I I needed to do it in secret. They thought at first I wanted it for free and seemed quite put out, I said I’m happy to pay etc just couldn’t sort it myself. After the proposal I asked for the drink to be dropped off. After that, there was no congratulations from any of the staff or even a message on the bed etc. The facilities were also past their best, with the two hot tubs not being up to temperature all week and the saunas also being cold unless you huddled around the heater. The breakfast was sub par, there were items missing after 0900 never to be replaced so unless you got there very early, hard if you’re up chasing the aurora most of the night. You had to make do cold with odds and ends. All in all a really disappointing stay.
