    Not as advertised

    rating05 Jun 2026

I don’t like posting two star reviews, but in this case I have to.My wife and I booked up late - I assume the late availability was due to a cancellation - for the night of the Champions League Final. Price ludicrously inflated - although understandably so - at €388 instead of the usual €55. I booked a double room; confirmed by email. When we arrived at the hotel around 2pm, we were checked not into a double room, but a room with three sets of bunk beds. We were frankly too tired to argue, having set off from home at 3am. And on the plus side we were being allowed to check in an hour prior to standard check-in time. We just wanted somewhere to rest for a few hours. However, in addition, the room wasn’t entirely clean and there were no toiletries in the room. The receptionist had asked me to pay the City Tax - it wasn’t until we returned home that I clocked that it had already been included in the price. I therefore ended up paying it twice. On returning after the match, we asked for some soap so that we could shower. The reception team had to scrabble around for some - claiming that as the hotel was being refurbished such items were not made readily available by the owners. Nonsensical, frankly. We left the hotel at 3.30am to get back to the airport - no point in discussing matters with the night staff…I complained by email when we got home. And put a hold on the credit card payment. That was a week ago - and we have heard nothing from the hotel owners. I’m sure that the hotel is a perfectly adequate spot for backpackers, students etc in the normal course of events, as it is very close to the main train station, and we were prepared to make allowances for the refurbishments. But it is difficult to describe it as royal, it is nowhere near a park, and can hardly be called boutique. Hopefully at some point we will hear back from the owners.

    Absolutely perfect for exploring Budapest

    rating27 Mar 2026

This hotel was part of my package holiday, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when it came to accommodation on my Euro tour. However, I was pleasantly surprised from the moment I arrived. The warm welcome set the tone for a great stay. The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Budapest. It’s literally a one‑minute walk from Keleti Pályaudvar train station, with easy access to trams, buses, trains and the metro. It’s also just a few minutes’ walk to Stop 11 for the sightseeing hop‑on hop‑off bus, which made getting around incredibly convenient. The front desk team—especially Greg and Morgan, along with their manager Milan—were outstanding. They were friendly, supportive and highly professional throughout my stay. They genuinely went out of their way to ensure guests were comfortable and well looked after.I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely choose this hotel again when I next visit Budapest.

Definitely not the Grand Hotel Budapest

    rating05 Mar 2026

Check-in was seamless and the concierge was friendly and helpful with directions around the city. The hotel is well located near the main bus, train and metro routes, although it sits down a fairly dark side street. The room also had a safe and fridge provided free of charge.Unfortunately, the positives end there. The hotel is currently undergoing major refurbishment work which was not disclosed by the travel agent (The Travel Makers) or on their website. As a result, there are no restaurant or bar facilities available and the whole building seems to be covered in dust from the ongoing works. The room itself was quite dark due to the paint colours, the TV couldn’t receive any channels, and there were no toiletries provided. Towels were changed daily but were small and rather threadbare – not what you would expect from a four-star hotel. There were coffee facilities at the reception on the ground floor for free, but no kettle in the room if you wanted a drink in the morning.Refurbishment work starts around 7am and runs until about 5pm, with hammering and drilling echoing throughout the hotel. Not the wake-up call we were hoping for on holiday.Budapest itself is a fantastic city with loads to see and plenty of great pubs and restaurants for every budget. Sadly, this hotel doesn’t live up to the name — it’s definitely not the “Most Grand Hotel Budapest”, more like its ugly sister.

    Far from Boutique

    rating01 Mar 2026

Very disappointing stay. We booked bed and breakfast but were told on arrival that breakfast was unavailable due to construction, with no prior warning from the hotel or travel provider. The entire hotel was under renovation, not just the breakfast area. There was drilling and banging from 7am every morning and the fire alarm went off shortly after each day. Dust was everywhere and there was no stair access to our 6th-floor room, only lifts, which felt unsafe. The hotel is not “boutique” as advertised — not even soap was provided in the bathroom, no tea or coffee facilities, and glasses in the room were never replaced during the stay. The room was also far too hot and the temperature control didn’t work.Overall, very poor communication and not the standard we paid for or expected.

    Not stayed in worse

    rating18 Jan 2026

I’ll start with the good (it’ll be quick) location is very near transport links, it’s warm. There is a free safe in the room.Work going on that we weren’t told about - being woken at 7.30 to drilling when on holiday is not great, but if that hadn’t woken us, the music being pumped into the corridor at 7.30 would’ve got us.No tea/coffee making facilities in room, some in reception, but broken and no one seems to care. No toiletries in room. There were drinking glasses but they weren’t changed during our stay.Decor is very tatty (at best) as you can see from photos. Holes in towels, curtains etc.Restaurant closed - again, we were not told this, it was a lovely surprise. All in all, functional, but not enjoyable.
