    A lovely clean hotel close to the splendid Matsumoto castle with friendly staff.Stayed for 1 night during a group tour of Japan and we were given a room that would be large even by western standards (so huge for Japan!). It was super clean and very comfortable. Front desk staff were very friendly. Breakfast was very good. The whole experience felt like an intimate 5-star boutique hotel.The only small downside might be it's a 10-minute walk to get to restaurants.Recommended

    We stayed here for two nights on our three week tour of Japan and would happily stay here again. Lovely modern hotel superbly located for the castle about fifteen minutes from the station. We cabbed there to get bearings, but dragged the bags on the way out - no problem. The breakfast room is located in the old banking hall and is fab, but the rest of the hotel is a modern building built on

    We liked the hotel, the room was bigger than I expected and the shower was excellent. It has an ideal location, not far from the castle and close to various restaurants. We didn't have breakfast there as there are places not far away that ate cheaper and probably better. It's a bit of a walk to the train station but easily doable as there are not the crowds of people you fin in Tokyo.

    Nice Enough Budget Business Hotel, Skip their Breakfast!

    Room was clean and had all the basics, but everything felt about 25 percent undersized and the peak of 1970s mid-range hotel decor. The window in our room was quite large, nice open view. The location is excellent for both the castle and the older charming parts of town. Breakfast was awful, set up in the older building they use for their photos, a huge ballroom with 25 foot ceilings. But it felt like being in a cavernous school cafeteria, they had a large array of both Japanese & western breakfast items. Not sure about the Japanese stuff, but the western items were SO sub-par, we had to force ourselves to take a small portion of things to try. It looks like Matsumoto doesn't really have higher end hotels, I don't know if there are better alternatives. Again, the photo of an elegant older building with tall arched windows is not the hotel, it is an adjacent building that they have annexed as an event space.
