Appalling basement room - AVOID!

BEWARE! We had booked a double room for 2 nights and when we arrived we were given a room in the basement (level -1). As soon as we got out of the lift we could smell the damp and feel the cold. The room was a disgrace! Damp patches low down on all the walls, paint peeling off the walls, cobwebs and dirt in the corners, terrible smell of damp, flimsy furniture, noise from the street right above th… BEWARE! Saddest, ugliest and most tired hotel I have ever been in (and I travel 20+ times a year). Bathroom in room 19 was dirty (traces of feces in the toilet!!!), rusty and unclean (mobility aids) and with traces of mold (shower and windowsill). The flooring has come undone in the room, the furniture was less than minimal and damaged. Great hotel with great bed,pillows,hot shower!Absolutely wonderful staff that were both friendly and helpful.Enjoyed the rapport with the lady on day shift so much she gave us a complimentary bottle of wine.A little out of the tourist precinct ..10-15 min enjoyable walk but well seviced by trams at Republique stop.Would highly recommend.Oh..great price also.Great hotel with great bed,pillows,hot shower!Absolutely wonderful staff that were both friendly and helpful.Enjoyed the rapport with the lady on day shift so much she gave us a complimentary bottle of wine.A little out of the tourist precinct ..10-15 min enjo…
