    Carcassone made easy

    rating29 Sept 2025

Friendly hotel in excellent location. Great place to start or end a trip given that everything here feels easy. We arrived on a Thursday and managed to book massages for that evening in the lovely spa. The medieval city is a stone’s throw away and yet the hotel is so peaceful. Easy to wander into the city for food, drinks, or history. After a wander, it’s nice to go back to the hotel bar and have a drink and relax. I would recommend that anyone staying a couple of days make the effort to go into Carcassone proper too as it’s actually quite a nice big town and far less touristy.Breakfast at the hotel is limited but very good. Local yogurt and apple juice, boiled egg, and really good bread and pastries. The hotel does a great job with a limited kitchen and we were very happy with the food.Love that you can park at this hotel easily too although there is an additional charge for that.Only reason i didn’t give this a 5 star this time round is that the weather was cooler and we didn’t get to use the swimming pool at all -somehow that made the experience a bit less special. A couple of years ago, we spent 2 days lounging on the cabanas with the occasional swim or jacuzzi visit and it was so relaxing. Not the hotel’s fault that the season is changing but for those that are attracted by the pool, take note of when it is open and weather forecast. One small point: we upgraded our room to one with a little balcony and view of the castle. Room was very nice but the bathroom shower area was showing signs of wear and tear and when I first turned on the shower, someone had left the hand held unit pointing directly out towards the opening and I got soaked! Also, the shower pan filled up with water and it was like being in a paddling pool. I’m sure I could have mentioned it to management and they would have addressed it but we were hooking up with friends and forgot all about it. If you want to enjoy a relaxing time in a cool family-run hotel where everything seems easy, this is the place for you. One last point that I was amazed by: in the bar you can order some very nice wines by the glass. The hotel has a cool machine that allows them to store wine in glass size bottles and keep the wine in optimal condition. Very cool!

Confirm where your room is located if you book this hotel.

    rating17 Sept 2025

A hotel of two halves. Our road trip through France and Italy took us to Carcassone and this hotel was conveniently situated within seconds of the walls of the medieval city. Based upon the website photos we anticipated a lovely hotel with a direct view of the walls of the city over the view of the swimming pool (which is much smaller than anticipated from the photos) . What we actually got was a room in the annexe building across the car park and over the road with no view of anything except the small garden area. We called reception for a move but was told the ‘hotel’ was full and the only change available involved spending yet more money. Our room wasn’t good. The carpets were dirty and stained and it looked like damp was creeping into the room. The main hotel building was pleasant but the pool area wasn’t well kept or cared for. It just all felt shabby. If you are booking this hotel, make sure you are aware of the part of the hotel where you will stay. Bar service was also quite slow and on a couple of occasions, we had to go find staff to serve.

Hotel with a View (if you get the right room)!

    rating06 Sept 2025

Honestly, this review should be 5 stars but our room (which admittedly was one of the cheaper ones) is in a second building tucked away to the rear of the main hotel. Air conditioning wasn't fantastic (and this is during a week when temperatures were hitting forty degrees) and the door lock jammed from time to time which got them marked down but aside from that this is one of the places to stay in Carcassonne!!! Breakfast was superb made all the better by having it looking out upon the medieval walls and the staff couldn't do enough for us (the tequila sunrises also helped).

The Grande Suite - wonderfully fantastically Grande!

    rating17 Aug 2025

I chose the Hotel Montmorency, having Googled places to stay after booking a five-day ‘Ryanair break’ (and car-hire) into Carcassonne from Manchester. We spent one-night there with our sixteen year-old son and rather wished we’d stayed longer! I booked the Grande Suite, really so he could have his own room and not be on a flimsy sofa-bed mattress in the ‘lounge’, as is often the case!We actually wasted a good twenty minutes just walking around the Suite, chuckling to ourselves and childishly playing hide and seek, and counting the beds… it’s that big!I was slightly apprehensive in advance, as recent reviews spoke of the hotel in general being dark and the rooms in need of a bit of TLC. But not the Grande Suite. The décor was lovely! Modern, clean, spacious, trendy. Only minor negative is that the spiral staircase upstairs could (potentially) be a slight struggle for someone elderly, infirm or very young children.Pool area was lovely. Parking safe and secure for €15 per night. Good aircon. Good WiFi. Very central, but very quiet. Breakfast was worth the €18.It was a great initial overnight base to then head out to visit Narbonne, Beziers, Montpellier, Sete and Bages/Peyriac-de-Mer. If I was to return to Carcassonne I’d have no hesitation to re-book. Any questions, just ask!

    Great view of medieval city!

Wild decor! Every room is decorated differently in bold color schemes, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Great outdoor spaces with comfortable shaded spots for food and drinks as well as a lovely pool area.
