Not dog friendly, shouted at when we went on to terrace with our small dog by a member of staff , young girl . Ruined whole experience . The pets in Hotel du ROi are more than welcome but it is true not allowed on the terrasse, restaurant, pool and bar. That does not mean not dog friendly. Generally (I have pets myself), oweners are calling the hotels and restaurant to know the restrictions regaridng the pets. The fact to welcome the pets does not mean they can go everywhere. Next time, I advise you to double check the rules of the The establishment where you will be staying is a place to avoid any surprises or disappointments (neither for you nor for the establishment). This information is reiterated in a friendly manner at check-in it's a real shame to be assigned this comment simply because your dog couldn't go on the terrace. Be aware that some dogs urinate and that owners don't clean up after them. The same goes for excrement. As a dog owner myself, it seems common sense to me that each establishment should have its own rules and that owners should inquire about them before traveling.This is called living together in harmony and has nothing to do with dog friendly or not friendly.

A very special hotel, fantastic location, great staff, and a fantastic manager! The breakfast was fantastic, and the cleanliness of the rooms was top notch! The views from the room of the castle was spectacular and breathtaking! The gym and spa were up to scratch! The mass RJ had was one of the best massages I've ever had anywhere in Europe! The helpfulness of the general manager and his appearance were beyond commendable! The price was perfect for the room, and also the car parking was extremely helpful and very near to the hotel. I can walk everywhere from the hotel, and the lighting and design of the hotel interior was very special. This really is an exceptional hotel. What a shame we only stayed one night en route to the ferry in Barcelona. Wonderful check-in staff (all) who sent us to the highest floor, far end of the corridor, as we had a dog (and quite right too!) and we ended up with a gigantic room with lobby, separate loo, two large double beds, a huge bathtub and all the extras (slippers, bathrobes, coffee machine, chilled water/juice). The décor was stunning and everything in beautiful condition and clean. The location, just across the bridge from Carcassonne centre, is very convenient, and we used the nearby Gambetta parking (7€ for 24h) which was secure and had video recording in place. I used the hotel gym (average) and pool (dodgy!). The pool (plus a note on dogs, to come) was the reason I didn't give five stars. The steps inside the pool (along the short side, and all the way one long side) have VERY sharp edges. As I swam, I kicked my foot against the step on the long side, doing a length, and grazed my toe to the point of blood. Honestly, it needs looking at. Almost everyone who swims will kick those sharp edges. Be careful. The other slight downside was no dogs in the garden, so no dogs allowed at breakfast - even outside. This meant my husb and I had to do breakfast in two shifts as we didn't want to leave them alone and risk separation woofing to disturb other guests. It's fine, but to be able to use an outside breakfast table would have been nice. Otherwise, this is an exceptional hotel, worth the rating, and a credit to all who work there/management. However, we are deeply sorry if you if you have injured yourself in the swimming pool. The latter has been studied to maximize safety since we welcome people with reduced mobility and children. Regarding the rules for welcoming the pets, this information is clearly communicated on all web sites and inside the hotel (and on the confirmation of the booking) . We accept pets but not in the restaurant, bar, terrasse, spa and pool for hygien reason. Each hotel has its own rules and to my opinion it is important to prepare the journey paying attention to this information before the stay to avoid any surprise or inconvenience . We will be delighted to welcome you back on another stay in Carcassonne.
