Location

This hotel is located on a hill between the sea and the rainforest-covered mountains and affords a dreamlike view of the sea and the outlaying rocky islands. The beach hotel lies in Playa Ballena directly next to Ballena Marine National Park. With the Costanera Sur motorway, Domincical is 25 km south of the hotel and Uvita is 7 km from the hotel. The tourist centre and the wonderful sandy beach are a 20-minute drive away, whilst the centre is 40 min away by car.

Facility

Guests can enjoy the pleasant ambience of one of the 15 junior suites, 3 suites and 18 double rooms. English- and German-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The resort offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. There are a number of shops, including a souvenir shop. The grounds of the complex feature a playground and a lovely garden. Additional facilities include a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the car park. Further services and facilities include a car hire service, medical assistance, room service, a laundry service, a hairdresser and a hotel shuttle bus. The business centre is on hand for guests' business requirements and provides a fax machine.

Rooms

Air conditioning and a fan ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Most units include a balcony with sea views, where guests can relax and linger a while. Rooms have a double bed, a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. A safe and a desk are also available. Additional features include a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station. Further amenities include an ironing set and a trouser press. Equipped with a direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels and WiFi (no extra charge), the rooms provide many ways for guests to stay connected and entertained. Bathrooms include a hairdryer and are equipped with a shower and a bathtub. As an extra convenience, bathrooms provide cosmetic products. Wheelchair-friendly rooms can be booked. Family rooms are available for parents with children.

Sport

Guests can taking a refreshing dip or just relax in the pool complex, which includes indoor and outdoor areas. A hot tub invites guests to soothe their muscles (for a fee), and a poolside snack bar will take care of any hungry bellies. A short break or an entire afternoon on the sun terrace, which features sun loungers and parasols, is time well spent. Water sports on offer include snorkelling or, for a fee, canoeing and diving. Sport and leisure facilities at the resort include a gym, billiards and darts.     I had a spacious room with a wonderful view from the large balcony. The AC in the room was fabulous - and I like to sleep in a cool room. The pool was a bit warm for me but a nice area to relax in with service available from the bar. The service overall was very good - both in the restaurant and at reception. My first dinner was very salty and so I asked for low salt for the next two nights and the food was delicious. There are places to explore on the grounds with very nicely done walking trails. Overall this is a very welcoming and beautiful place to stay.     A worthwhile detour

    We swam at the pool which was exceptionally large and ate dinner at their restaurant. The dinner of a tropical salad and fish with shrimps were very tasty; the service was excellent and although a little out of the way, the restaurant was worth the trip.     Interesting overnight stop

    We stayed overnight as we had an early snorkelling trip. A big room, a bit "70's" but clean with a balcony and a view over the pool and out to the forest and the sea. Evening meal was very good but we had to go before breakfast and our "box to go" consisted of two thin sandwiches (one of them the thinnest spread of jam possible) and a biscuit. Staff excellent, parked right by reception. Lots of huge grasshoppers for company. Would not be surprised if White Lotus series 4 was based here...     Wonderful, Magical, Birders Paradise

    Wow. Loved this place. We just spent 6 nights here. Don't be put off by the short dirt road and very steep driveway to get to the property - everything worth seeing in Costa Rica seems to be down a dirt road and up a steep incline :). The property is immaculate. Grounds are beautiful. I am a birder, so being up early in the morning, just sitting outside our room was magical - toucans, oropendolas (nesting on the property), chachalacas, lots of flycatchers, tanagers, woodpeckers, heard an owl one evening when coming back from the parking lot after dinner. I added a bunch of birdies to my life list! There is an agouti walking around in the afternoons. And a very friendly black cat in the restaurant (but also hung out with us on our patio (room 20) one afternoon. Ocean view is fantastic, as are the sunsets. Very large pool. A great group of guests - I heard Italian, French, German, of course Spanish, during our stay. The staff - all great. Waiters, front desk, lots of maintenance people and groundskeepers to keep the place looking and running well. Breakfast - a nice selection Lunch/dinner - great menu, lots of options. The burgers are great, the tropical salad is amazing. Specials at dinner every day. Thanks to Andreas and Angelika who have carried on the tradition of their parents to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.     Perfect Getaway with Comfort, Fun, and Great Hospitality

    We had a fantastic stay! The room was spacious, clean, and featured a large balcony with breathtaking views. The bed was very comfortable, and we had everything we needed right in the room.One of the highlights was the giant heated pool, which we were lucky to have all to ourselves, a true luxury! The kitchen staff was especially friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home throughout our stay. In the evening, we had a great time playing billiards and darts at the restaurant, it was a lot of fun!Cristal Ballena exceeded our expectations in every way — highly recommended for anyone visiting Uvita!
