Location

The hotel is divided into a southern tower and a northern tower, situated on either side of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. It is only a ten-minute walk from Baiyun Mountain.

24 suites, 675 single rooms and 300 double rooms are located on 12 storeys and can be reached by lift. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Superb service. Hotel starting to age but very clean

I must commend their service. Room service attended to me quickly and were friendly. Importantly, my colleague lost a valuable item in the hotel and the hotel's response exceeded my expectations. They proactively called to alert us, was highly cooperative in meeting our requests (like taking a photo of the item, liaising with Customs when the item was not allowed to be couriered overseas, and when all fails they sent to another domestic address) and reverting to us frequently and timely. Besides, concierge also delivered my luggage from Block 1 to Block 5 (both blocks are hotel, separated by the conference centre in between, hence is a distance) without hesitation.The wooden furniture can be seen aging, but the room feels comfortable and clean. Bed and sheets were comfortable, no foul smell, water pressure is good.They serve only Chinese breakfast (noodles and dim sum among others) but not very tasty.This is a conference centre hotel and is a distance from the city. The nearest metro is about 400 metres away. The nearest mall is about 15 mins walk away. Behind the hotel is a hill for hiking and a sports centre with a park.

Great place for a lay over

I stayed here courtesy of China Southern both ways between Auckland and Amsterdam. There was about a 12 hour day time break between flights. The room was excellent, spacious and quiet and the free all you can eat breakfast was great. However the restaurant provides little else for the rest of the day and there is nothing else nearby. The hotel is within walking distance of a huge park where you can walk up the mountain and get superb views of the city from the cafe. It is also within easy reach of the metro which will whisk you into central Guangzhou, which I did on the return trip. It is a massive complex but the room I was given was in the main reception block. Would recommend as a stopover.

Unreliable service and dated hotel

I checked into 1311 for 4 nights. The check in was at 4am on October 9 and the counter staff was very helpful even though she couldn’t get a high floor. The room was nicely decorated but the aircon could not be controlled so I had to turn it off. The second day there was no room service but the subsequent days were well done. The breakfast had a variety of Chinese food. The lingnan restaurant and spicy house on level 2 of block 5 were good value and good food. On checkout on October 12 morning at 830, there’s a long queue mixed with check in and out. Only one staff was handling client even though there were 5-6 staff standing there looking at computers. When prompted to do something, the lady dressed in dark suit just asked clients to queue up and ignored the long queue. The system of handling situation was very poor and the attitude bad. Even the sign of hotel is misleading and taxi driver can not figure out to find main lobby is at block 1. A 4 star hardware with a 3 star service. The ground is beautiful and nice place to walk around after dinner or in early morning.

Old Hotel, but great service!

We had a layover with China Southern, and they gave us a room for the day. We had a private car take us to the hotel, and then back to the airport. We were there for breakfast and there was a good selection of food. The room itself was dated and could use an upgrade. The shower leaked all over the bathroom, as the drain wasn't working properly. The bed was comfortable. Considering China Southern picks up the tab, it was great!

Stayed here for 1 night on a layover in Guangzhou courtesy of China Southern Airlines -- it was a horrible experience! The staff were not at all helpful and don't seem to care about guests. I checked-in at 10:45 pm on a Saturday night and asked about food options, as I hadn't eaten since noon. I was told that the hotel bar and restaurant were closed (at 10:30 pm), but that I could order room service. Got to my room, but the phone wasn't working. Went back downstairs to ask for help from the front desk clerk - she offered to send someone to fix my phone, but I told her I really just wanted to eat. She didn't offer to help, but instead told me to use the house phone on my floor to order room service. Went back upstairs and called room service from the "house phone", but they told me that they were closed for the night! Went back downstairs and after waiting for 5 minutes for the same front desk clerk to finish a personal phone call, she informed me that room service was indeed closed for the night. I inquired about other options outside the hotel but she told me that they were all closed for the night. I asked her for help to find something to eat and she said I would have to wait until 7:00 am for breakfast! Went back to my room and remembered that there was a mini-bar -- but that was empty (you have to order and pay for items in advance). Finally, after another 30 minutes, I was able to find someone to bring me 3 cans of beer and a piece of bread for "dinner", but first I had to make another trip downstairs (my 4th) to see the unfriendly front desk clerk to pay in advance. I went to bed hungry...The next day, I tried to take the "hourly" shuttle back to the airport ahead of my agreed upon departure time - but was told that it was not possible to leave early. There were no apologies or no suggestions on what to do while waiting... The staff here simply don't care at all guests. The room itself was fine, but not modern, and furniture certainly is old and showing lots of wear & tear. There was some tape over drain the bathroom, which wasn't very appealing. I would avoid this hotel at all costs - it's the worst hotel experience that I've had in over a decade.
