  One night in Ghent

  The hotel is well located in the pedestrian city center and offers a private parking for your car. We arrived in the afternoon and the check-in was fast and friendly. Our room was directly available on the top floor. The room was big with a nice view of the city and very clean.   Quality hotel in central Gent. Parking on site expensive

  The Novotel Gent Centrum delivers a quality stay and is superbly located close to most of Gent’s many tourist sites. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Rooms are smart and well equipped, although some need a lick of paint. Some rooms have baths.The breakfast offers a good choice of hot and cold dishes. There is a bar and restaurant as well on site. The hotel has underground parking at an astonishing 30€ per night. Nearby public places still cost 20€ per night, so if you are coming by car you might want to look for other options (eg P+R or Internet booking). Central Gent does not like cars! Wi-fi works well, but there is a faster option if you have an Accor (hotel group) account.There is an open air pool, available only during the warmer months. Rooms facing the main square can be noisy if Gent is having a rowdy evening, especially at the weekend.   Great location. A little tired in the room, but bed was comfortable and shower was ok. Didn't have breakfast as there are a few places around the hotel anyway to eat. Staff were helpful. We had a problem with the shower but it was fixed straight away. Very clean. Parking was 30 euros per day but well worth it. Room 336 was noisy, so request an inner courtyard room.   We always stay here when in Gent. It is in the centre within easy reach of all our favourite bars and restaurants. Had a very nice upgrade and enjoyed our complimentary drinks. Very nice young barman Kaz who was there on our last visit. We were mainly lucky with the weather and I enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a book by the pool and listening to the bells. Not sure what the tune was but it was very pleasant. Waal and Serda greeted us very warmly. We have always always been impressed with how professional they all are and also how well turned out. I mention this as it was the last of 6 hotels we stayed in during this trip and I can assure you that they were head and shoulders above the others. Hope to be back for the Christmas market.   good location but some problems

  stayed here as part of our family holiday this summer - 2 adults and 2 children. Room was good and spacious and the hotel is excellently located. outdoor pool was a nice bonus for the chlidren. booked parking in advance and was able to arrive at the car park before checking in and used this to explore Ghent for a while before coming back to check in. this is where things took a turn for the worse. came back to the hotel at around 4pm to check in and was told that, even though check in is from 3pm, the room was still not ready. we pointed out that this isn't really on as we're paying for the room from 3pm and were met with a shrug. it was only because my husband stayed at the counter that someone more helpful came along and they were able to give us a room straight away so it wasn't really clear what the problem was or why the first lady couldn't do this. Didn't book breakfast as it was really quite expensive and there were bakeries and coffee shops within minutes walking distance of the hotel so went out and bought provisions in the morning to take back to the room instead. had a look at what was on offer in the hotel and didn't really feel we were missing out or that we woudl have got our monies worth. on the day of check out they kick you out of the car park quite strictly at 12pm, which is fair enough, but this is where we tried to get help from reception again. We asked the gentleman on duty where where he would recommend parking once we'd moved from the car park and he advised us to drive straight on at the junction from the hotel and told us that, as it was a sunday, traffic and parking restrictions were eased and we could park on the road opposite. This turned out to be entirely incorrect and his directions led us the wrong way up a one way street - we corrected ourselves as quickly as we could and found a risk free public car park instead with the help of some local residents who told us the rules don't change on a sunday anyway, but we wait to see if we get a fine in the post! When we pointed this out to him when popping back to the hotel later to use their toilets, we were met with another shrug and a comment that "the roads must have changed recently" - a google maps and google translate search when we got home shows us that its been this way for over 10 years! in summary - ok hotel in a good location, but don't expect a warm welcome or any help from the staff and don't rely on their advice.
