Hotel Principe

Our 2nd stay here- great location on the canal and close to transportation via train, bus or water taxi’s. They have their own dock for transport as well. The room was small but is typical for Europe. It was clean but a bit worn- the hair dryer was coming off the wall so difficult to use. Beds were twins- pretty comfortable. The towels were very thin and needed replacing with something of better quality. They provide a mini bar refrigerator and we had a small Juliette balcony with a side view of the canal. The staff at the front desk were less than friendly- only one younger gentleman was kind and patient with our tourist questions regarding transport around the canal. We understand Venezia gets SO many tourists the service industry probably just gets sick of dealing with all the people. It’s unfortunate but we experienced that pretty much everywhere and didn’t take it personally. The breakfast with a view of the canal makes this hotel worth the sacrifices. Get a room with a balcony!

We love the ease of arriving at Hotel Principe, either by foot from the train or from the canal. We were warmly greeted and promptly attended to. Our arrangements for departure early the next morning were easily and reassuringly dealt with. Our room #212 was fresh, light and big enough to cater for our 2 large and 2 small cases about. The bed was perfect, firm with beautiful linens. The bathroom had all required amenities and the shower had marvellous pressure and oodles of hot water - always appreciated after travelling. The loveliest bonus was our small balcony with a canal view over the treetops. Alas, our stay was brief but we will be back again. Let us share a valuable tip. We had been cruising and upon collection of our luggage at Porto Marghera, exited the building to see the most welcome sight. The Portabagagli Del Porto “Easy luggage/Easy Venice” stall. In no time, our 4 bags were booked to be delivered to Hotel Principe (around 3:00pm) for 13 Euro each. Our option otherwise is to drag them the length of the dock, up the lift/escalator, people mover to Piazza Roma, heave them up and down the stairs, avoid crowds and rattle to the hotel. This is the best Euro spent in Venice. Hands free and off we went. Note - on that day there was a train strike, the people mover wasn’t working and fellow cruises had to jam themselves and luggage onto buses. We were so appreciative of this service.
