Hotel AF Valle Orotava

I booked a short break in this lovely hotel after a hectic few days in Gran Canaria and was very impressed. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite and it was very comfortable indeed. The staff at the hotel were all very pleasant and hard working. Special mentions to José on reception and Alan in the restaurant. Jose was always helpful and charming and made me laugh. Alan always gave me a warm greeting in the restaurant and was very attentive to me and all the other guests. The restaurant was always very busy at maximum capacity and the staff were very hard-working but remained pleasant and friendly. The buffet food was fine. Could have been a little hotter and a little repetitive but no complaints. Standard buffet fayre. The clientele of the hotel was quite old age and in my mid 40s was one of the youngest. No problem, just an observation. Location of the hotel is also excellent. All in all, a pleasant stay in a lovely hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. Would definitely stay again.

I arrived past the dinner time due to various delays and was ecstatic to hear that a chef prepared me a cold platter, which was a godsend as I did not fancy going hunting for food and water after a day of travelling. I had a room with Teide view above a busy street, which was noisy throughout the night with traffic, deliveries and party makers aka happy serenaders. The air on the balcony was a bit smelly from the traffic but all this is to be expected from a central location. What is the best about this hotel is that it is less than 5 minutes on foot from the main bus station. I purchased a 7-day bus pass at the station and went everywhere across the north coast. You are also round the corner from from Plaza del Charco, where you can find eateries and spots to chill as well as taxis. Another plus point is that the room safe is free of charge. I was on half board and at the buffet, I found everything I wanted. The chefs grilled meats or made omelettes to order every day, always with a smile. They have the restaurant system adopted by several hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, whereby you pay for your drinks at the till but you can put your drinks on a tab as well if you wish. There is a HiperDino supermarket nearby, where I got my water and snacks during the day. I ran out of time to use the spa but it looked great when I checked it out and it was reasonably priced too. The rooftop pool scene is very pleasant. The hotel room has a mini-bar fridge with chargeable items and there is a kettle with a supply of coffee sachets and teabags. The staff at this hotel is one of the friendliest in the area. José y José at the reception and restaurant were both ace but everyone really deserves a mention here! Thanks for having me, I’d happily stay again.

A very good well-appointed hotel. The decor is Scandi-like and attractive. The room and bathroom are both a good size and the shower is excellent with a very large head. The breakfast buffet, hot and cold, was comprehensive and we were very happy with it. The two rooftop pools, one warm and one cold (the latter with disabled access) are superb with fine views of the sea and Mount Teide. We had a balcony (with no view, but still pleasant in the evening after a day’s tourist activities). There is a kettle in the room. The hotel location is excellent - handy for the quayside area, restaurants, the Titsa bus station and the ample Muelle car park which is free. Areas for improvement are mostly minor. Some of the reception staff do not give the warmth of welcome we are accustomed to in a holiday hotel. Full marks to the male staff member who scoured the hotel for black teabags at breakfast and brought them to our table. (Earlier in the holiday there were none for two days - green and orange infusions do not count as tea in my vocabulary.) It went dark at a little after 8pm and the balcony lights do not come on until 9pm - you can’t switch them on yourself but you can ask reception; on two evenings when we asked they did not put them on meaning we were in pitch dark. There were occasional housekeeping omissions though overall the room was maintained well. The corridor lights are a little slow to come on, meaning you are walking to your room in pitch dark. As others have mentioned, there is a bathroom privacy issue despite some etching on the glass door. Overall, we very much enjoyed our fortnight there. With a little more reception warmth and attention to a few details it could be a five star rather than a four.

We had a family room. Lovely spacious so we didn't get on top of each other. Beautiful views, clean and tidy, balcony was large. Swimming pool one was lovely and warm, the other was colder this had the disability lift in. The sunbeds dont raise up at the back you have to lay flat all the time . Food was lovely, plate were mucky with dried on food. Staff were very helpful and friendly, they allowed us into the dinning hall 15 mins before it opened so we could decorate the table for my parents 60th wedding anniversary, they even blew some extra balloons up for us. The only down side to it was the set up of the bathroom. The way it is set up the bath is in the room. The toilet door is made of glass so you can see each other on the toilet, if you need to poop dont be trumping as everyone can hear everthing and the shower isn't private either. The twin rooms if you catch the angle wrong when looking in the mirror you can see people on the toilet.
