Ibis Styles Athens Routes

I travelled on my own and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The hotel itself is fab. Clean and bright with friendly and helpful staff. I stayed in a double room which was a great size, with a lovely large shower that was powerful and always had hot water. Breakfast was included and comprised of typical European hot and cold options. Plenty to get me ready for a days exploring. Unfortunately the hotel is in an area that looks a little shabby and rundown. And while I did not feel unsafe walking around, as a woman travelling alone, I made a point of not going out past 7pm. It is also on a very busy road, and the constant noise of traffic, even through the night, is audible and did disturb my sleep. I’m surprised that the windows are not more sound proof to be honest. Having said that I found the hotel to be a great base for getting around and seeing the sites, 20 minutes walk gets you to most places, or at least to somewhere that you can pick up public transport. Overall, the hotel is ideal for a short city break.

This Ibis Styles hotel is located in Vouliagmenis Avenue equidistant from Acropolis and Athens Metro Mall close to the Concentrix office in downtown Athens. The popular beaches like Akti Vouliagmenis or Glyfada beaches lie on the way south on this Vouliagmenis Avenue. Acropolis Museum is walkable but you can also take the metro. The closest metro station is Aghios Ioannis (350m). Theres a nice flea market around this metro station on weekends. The hotel has a very modern aesthetic. Rooms are spacious with in-room coffee apparatus and mini-fridge. Breakfast was the only meal the hotel was serving when I visited earlier this week but there are ample nearby cafes and restaurants where you can get takeout for lunch and dinner. Breakfast items included traditional Greek fare like dolmadakia and Greek yoghurt. There's a nice garden sitting area right next to the cafe. Happy hour is between 5-7pm with 30% off on drinks.

Conveniently located in a quiet residential neighbourhood yet very accessible. At least 3 supermarkets within a 5 mins walking distance, good for any last-minute souvenir ideas. The nearest metro (Aghios Ionnais on the red line) is also just a 5 minutes walk away. A stroll to the Acropolis would only take 15-20mins. Neighbourhood is not too bustling, so felt very safe even walking on the streets alone during night time. If you're looking for nightlife there's also a couple of bars within walking distance which opens until midnight. Room is spacious and clean, with uninterrupted flow of hot water while taking a showering. Wifi connection is also hassle-free and quick. View was... My view was other peoples' balcony, but at least you can see the sunlight seeping through. Been told by the front desk receptionist Chara that I was being upgraded to the premium room due to my membership, which added more happy surprises for me during my 4 night at this hotel. I would like to give a huge thank you to the following persons: Ervis for assisting my check-out and helping me to hail a cab to the airport. He also reminded me about the fix rate to the airport so that I wouldn't get scammed by the driver. And Chara... Oh there is so much to say thank you about this sweet lady. She's a really helpful and thoughtful person, and I have to say she's the person who made me experience what Greek hospitality really is about. There was one that I'm looking for dinner ideas, she firstly gave me a few suggestions, and then she was kind enough to help me to phone the restaurant to reserve a table. There was also another time I discovered that despite of the mild weather, no one but only me was wearing shorts on the metro. I immediately told her about this finding, afraid that I might have break some kind of social taboo. She explained the phenomenon to me then comforts me, telling me to "No need to feel bad about yourself". I felt so warm and touched, as she really care about my feelings. Even I'm just new in this city and just her for a few days only, I do have a feeling as if she's treating me like a family member. I'm really blessed to have chosen this hotel to reside at, and I'm so contented to have met such wonderful people during my travel. I truly wish everyone working at ibis Athens Routes all the best, especially to Chara, and hopefully in the near future I could visit this amazing and friendly city again.
