    Great views - terribly run

    rating14 Jun 2026

We stayed at Huma Bay Hotel for a few days after our wedding in Croatia and, unfortunately, despite the beautiful location and scenery, our experience was extremely disappointing. At over €420 per night for a 5-star hotel, you expect excellent service, attention to detail, and a focus on guest experience. The hotel itself is modern, has stunning views, and is in a great location. Unfortunately, poor management overshadows all of those positives. The only reason I can see it continuing to perform well is that there are very few comparable alternatives nearby. The first thing that stood out was the cleanliness of the common areas. The hallways and staircases outside our room were visibly dirty throughout our stay, with dust and dirt remaining there for days. It was genuinely surprising that nobody appeared to notice or address it.Our room block also opened directly onto the main road with no key-card access required to enter the building and no visible security presence. Anyone could walk straight into the accommodation area. Having to step out onto the roadside to access your room also felt unusual and not particularly secure for a hotel of this standard. The overall atmosphere felt as though management was more focused on policing guests and generating extra revenue than providing a relaxing luxury experience. On our first morning, four different staff members entered our room to check whether we had used anything from the minibar, yet the room itself wasn't cleaned until late that afternoon. Meanwhile, the dirty common areas remained untouched. The beach area perfectly summed up the culture of the hotel. Rather than greeting guests warmly, staff seemed primarily focused on checking room numbers, monitoring towel usage, and ensuring guests were not using facilities they were not entitled to. There appeared to be a manager or owner sitting at the beach bar for much of the day directing staff to carry out these checks. You could visibly see staff being sent to verify room numbers and monitor sunbeds and parasols. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere that felt more like surveillance than hospitality. Even the beach setup felt designed to maximise additional charges, with only standard sunbeds included and extra fees applied for cabanas.Another issue was the automatic 10% service charge added to food and drink orders, which was not particularly obvious when ordering.Breakfast was disappointing for a hotel at this price point. Every morning there was a queue simply to get a coffee. In a 5-star hotel charging these rates, table service for tea and coffee should be standard. One morning a manager approached our group and asked if there was anything he could do for us. My brother mentioned that the shampoo and conditioner in his room had been empty for several days and also asked for a coffee. The manager assured him both issues would be sorted immediately. The coffee never arrived, and the toiletries remained empty for the rest of the stay. The checkout process was perhaps the most concerning part of all. We had prepaid almost everything except some food charged to our room. However, our final bill included minibar charges despite us never touching the minibar, along with accommodation charges for nights we had not stayed. Reception removed the charges immediately when we queried them, but it was concerning that they appeared at all. We also witnessed another guest disputing incorrect charges at the desk, and after reading other reviews, this does not appear to be an isolated complaint. I would strongly advise checking your bill carefully before leaving. To make matters worse, my parents became seriously ill shortly after eating lunch at the hotel on our final day. It was the only meal they ate separately from the rest of our group. The following morning we flew back to Dublin and my mother became so unwell that she ultimately required treatment in A&E.Overall, Huma Bay Hotel falls far short of the standard its price and rating suggest.

A hotel that prioritises “friends of the owners and managers” over guests

    rating12 Jun 2026

Hugely disappointed. We came on holiday for our honeymoon and the hotel have continuously disappointed us. They have no regard for their “regular” guests but prioritise premium guests (managers/owners friends and family or if you are part of the wedding party). On arrival at 1pm we were told our room wouldn’t be ready until 3pm. We had lunch and came back to check in at 3pm to be told it still wasn’t ready but it would be in 20 minutes. Went back in 20 minutes and it still was not ready, we were told to wait again. I asked how long as we were just sitting around reception when we could be enjoying the pool or beach while we wait but they told us “not long” so we continued to wait. Our room wasn’t ready until 4:45. Nearly 2 hours after checking and nearly 4 hours from our arrival. We feel we wasted the whole first day of our honeymoon and no gesture of good will was given, despite us voicing our upset and disappointment. The beach area is inhospitable. You are not allowed to even bring your own water. Everything has to be bought from them. Despite my husband being fair skin, they demanded that all umbrellas be put down. That it was too unsafe due to wind. I have been in Cape Verde and windier places where umbrellas were allowed. There was no places in the shade as an alternative. Despite voicing how it would be unsafe for him they demanded no umbrellas up and insist that he instead stay inside. Other members of the hotel also said about their fair skin and it not being safe with no umbrella but the hotel said because the umbrellas cost £300 they can’t risk them breaking. I said I’d rather have it up and pay £300 myself it if broke but they still demanded no. We said we would sign something to accept liability if it broke or hurt us falling in the wind, but they still demanded the umbrella stay down.Several sunbeds at the front were out of bounds and reserved for the owners family and friends but remained unused all day. We ordered a pizza and after an hour of waiting, I went to find out where it was. It was sat on the side, as the owners friends and family took priority being served. When the pizza finally arrived after being chased for it, it was cold. The hotel was then cordoned off for a wedding. We weren’t allowed in multiple areas of the hotel which we paid for and should be entitled too. The wedding took priority. Basically, hierarchy takes priority at this hotel. The hotel is beautiful and has potential but it is hugely disappointing when the service does not match the expense paid.

    Very Disappointing

    rating08 Jun 2026

I was looking for a spa day with my daughter, and came across Huma @ 45 Euro’s PP for the day, this only consisted of a Steam Room ( which wasn’t working) & a Sauna and use of pool.. The pool area was taken up by hotel guests, so we went to the hotel beach ( which we were not allowed to use ) although we could use the bar area. So basically spent 90 euros to sit in a bar by the beach, which we could have done anywhere for free!!

    Not 5 Star hotel

    rating01 Jun 2026

Just returned from a 5 day stay. Location great however service was terrible. Check in delayed by 2 hours. Waiting between 45 mins to 60 mins for a drink or food. No coffee this morning as machine broke. The room only cleaned 2 days out of the 5 days even though we constantly complainedCertainly not up to 5 star standards

    hotel without management

    rating28 May 2026

'm staying here right now and so far I've only been treated badly. They kicked me off the beach because I couldn't open my parasol. And when I went to the pool, they wouldn't let me protect myself from the sun with a sunshade either. Besides that, they get annoyed when we ask why there's never any staff at the pool bar. In short, a terrible choice by the hotel. I hope my stay here ends soon.
